Anyone running LOTFP modules with DCC??
erf,
guyz Ive read about people running their characters through Death Frost Doom and such but Ive never been able to decide if the Lamentations modules are something Id want. Sometimes the ideas come across as cool, other times it sounds like a bad joke someone is playing.
not sure if its worth my time tracking down one of the modules.
anyone destroy their party with one yet?

I've had a lot of fun with this module. My players managed to go back through time to rectify their errors from their first foray.....and they still haven't learned! So, now I am running DFD again, about 1 week in the past of the first foray, and already the curses are piling up.
Very Appendix N, IMHO.

Re: Anyone running LOTFP modules with DCC??
LotFP and DCC RPG were written for the same people, they just have different approaches. I have everything LotFP publishes. The later stuff probably have the highest production values of any RPG company out there, and the ideas that Raggi puts out there are mind blowing. I wouldn't call his stuff "bad jokes", they're hardcore, and lot of his stuff are essentially game changers for the campaign. Would make really good one-shot or mini campaigns.

I was probably tinking of the Magnificent Van Opps when I wrote that. There's some random event where the whole of Amsterdam vanishes from the world... as well as the party. I'm sure theres more to that than what I read but it seems silly to just annihilate everything without any reason. Hey guyz, you turn the corner of the street and.... that's it, everything is gone including you!
I guess I don't want that particular module.

I have pretty much bought up all the LotFP products and plan to use Pembrooktonshire as one of the adventure paths in my Isle of the Unknown DCC campaign

I'm a fan of his publications as well. I ran a TATG playtest through the Grinding Gear.reverenddak wrote:Yep. Isle of the Unknown is where my group is at right now. Plans for Death Frost Doom and some others soon. I own them all.
Good stuff.
His writings made me feel like it was okay for me to branch out and go a little crazy with TATG. I'd never seen anyone put quite as much imagination into a version of the World's Most Popular Roleplaying Game before. DCC appears to have taken that even further. I'm hoping TATG follows suit but in more of a thematic vein.

I'm scheming to throw one of my group's parties into a Carcosa-like setting. Does that count? I just bought it on Dak's recommendation!
I also have another one of his that I haven't read. I just got paid for some RPG writing -- which means that my RPG buying budget has just expanded. Maybe I'll grab a couple more of his productions.

I wish I could try the stuff out but I have to put them on hold for now. I've been hearing stories of pictures of mens erect weiners being in the books. That and some unsavory stuff associated with Carcosa. I don't want big weiners in my sword and sorcery collection.

Re: Anyone running LOTFP modules with DCC??
There is mature subject matter in Carcosa (It was a hot topic of controversy for a while in the OSR.) It's not for everyone. It clearly states so where ever you purchase the book. It's not for kids, or sensitive types. It's very dark-death-metal covers. Do a search of Cannibal Corpse album covers. They're like that.Clangador wrote:What do you mean?dark cauliflower wrote:That and some unsavory stuff associated with Carcosa.

the stuff I just heard about in the big C. went beyond "for mature" into "gross"!
the erect weiners might be in the gross area too.

Re: Anyone running LOTFP modules with DCC??
The section that most people find objectionable are the sorcerer rituals. (I wrote about that on my blog.) The book is probably not suitable for children, but the reaction it garnered seems out of whack with it's actual content. It's a minimalist setting, a hex crawl modelled after old Judges Guild supplements. I'm a big fan. It's a nice change of pace from your typical fantasy supplement. I think it's really well executed. A lot of people find it lacking. It seems to be a polarizing book.
The LotFP Grindhouse book has a lot of amazing art, some of it featuring naked people. That's not the end of the world.

hahah, I thought you were talking rhetorically. So I went and grabbed the copy my book, because I don't recall any wieners, much less erect ones, and man.dark cauliflower wrote:I'm not putting a poster with a big erect weiner up on my wall!
I LOVE THIS BOOK. The art is KICK ASS, brutal. Like a Death Metal album cover. (But I also like Metal...)
There are a lot of guts, teeth, and tentacles. Tentacles with teeth. Guts with teeth. Tentacled mounds feeding itself with people! Tentacled trees, feeding itself with people. Lots of DEAD PEOPLE, yeah sure, some of them nekkid. But contextually, not offensive. Gross, yeah. Of course. What else do you think happens when you take an axe to a face? But, nope, no wieners. You must be talking about a different book. Lots of tentacles, and tentacles are arguably phallic. Ever read a movie analysis on Alien (Ridley Scott's movie) or even Prometheus, and why they're so horrific to a lot of people, especially men. Yeah, it's uncomfortable for sure.
But what the hell, it's a book. And you don't put it up on the wall, you read it. I have a copy, and I consider it a prized possession.

Page 71 of the rules book features two guys & their petrified wieners. Page 74 Also depicts graphic sexual acts. I found the gore & porn combo quite off putting but I liked the system & advice to referees.reverenddak wrote:hahah, I thought you were talking rhetorically. Re: Anyone running LOTFP modules with DCC??
That's obvious now. Each his own, I guess. It's a great book, and so is the LotFP rpg. Though I'd make the distinction between the context of said wieners, being that a medusa is involved and the dudes that want to "do" her, i.e erect vs petrified... and, well, page 73. Nudity isn't always porn/sexual, and neither is "child"-birth... Gross, I'll give you that much. Not for everyone, and definitely not for the childrens.Crimsontree wrote:I don't think Dark cauliflower is talking about Carcosa when he mentions 'pictures of mens erect weiners being in the books.'

You might want to try my Isle of the Unknown, published by Lamentations of the Flame Princess. There is no unsavory or gross stuff in either its text or in its art. In fact, I think it is one of the most beautifully-illustrated RPG books ever. The book has a strong DCC RPG vibe to it as well.dark cauliflower wrote:I wish I could try the stuff out but I have to put them on hold for now. Co-signed, the artwork is gorgeous. Well done Geoffrey. I'm starting with sailors on the starless sea and taking them into the Isle of the Unknown from there. I plan on using Carcosa as another dimension or dream world where occasionally the characters will have to adventure.
