Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!)
Top 4 or 5 classes (space permitting) will be picked to be featured in an upcoming issue of Crawl!
Fans will contribute a version of the class they like the best, and the community will vote to see which version makes the zine!
Simple! I think...?
The 10 choices I picked were pretty arbitrary but seem to be the most popular. A few picks may be redundant (to some) but that's part of the challenge to make them stand out from the four "human" classes. Also the class names aren't final, e.g. Anti-paladin/Dark Knight or Paladin/Holy Warrior or Monk/Martial Artist. I'll let the contributors and the community make the call. But I'm pretty sure the old-schoolies, such as myself, will stick to traditional names... plus the focus for this challenge is Classic Classes...
Vote for 4.
I also decided that demi-human variants and Monsterous Classes can warrant their own issue, so I've left them out of this.
Feel free to campaign in this thread!
You can also change your vote if you feel inclined.
Poll will be open until Monday, Aug 13th!

Cool! Thanks for putting up the poll. I'm pushing for the Gnome, Paladin, Anti-Paladin, and Ranger.

Go for the GNOME!!!!
Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
I went for Gnome, Half-Orc, Monk, and Psionicist.
Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
For what it's worth, EGG always stated that an Anti-Paladin class should be called an "Avenger" (which is much better than Anti-Paladin, and is also a nice nod to the Chaotic path Fighters could take in BECMI D&D).reverenddak wrote:Also the class names aren't final, e.g. Anti-paladin/Dark Knight.

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
A nice range of choices there but I voted for Paladin/Anti-Paladin, Bard and Monk, mostly down to fond memories of those things in my old 1st ed PHB (well, not Anti-Paladin, that was not in it!).
It would be nice to see a Paladin class with different alignment paths like the Thief in DCC.

My vote : half-elf, half-orc, gnome and Ranger (to compare with my own Ranger Class)
But i will like to have all of them

Raskal, I'd like to see your Ranger submitted for Ranger (if it gets voted!)
I can totally see the Paladin/Avenger being the same class, a Holy Warrior, but of different alignment paths!

Wow the vote is really split right now!
That can only mean one thing: we'll need ANNUAL new classes CRAWL! issues.
Go Gnome!

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
Yeah, it's a good selection, and as far as the classes go, I felt they offered a lot more potential for "things we haven't already seen", than some of the other choices.reverenddak wrote:So did I!Colin wrote:I went for Gnome, Half-Orc, Monk, and Psionicist.

Wow! I'm really surprised by the performance of the paladin and the bard. Aren't they the most hated to play in almost every edition of D&D?

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
Bards are incredible. People just expect them to cast, thieve, and fight better than the more focused classes. What makes them special is that they can do all three well. In 5-person party, they support all of the other roles; in a 3-4 person party they fill gaps; in a 1-2 person party, they're a a liability.

@RevDak: Would my half-class idea for multi-classing work for this issue, do you think? If so, what is my deadline?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Draft Picks! (Pick the best!
Just got back from camping, and while out in the woods had a brainstorm about how to make a Gnome class for DCC. Glad to see it is very much in the running.

Really wanted to see what someone could do with the Psionicist. Not a huge fan of the class but it's never been done well in my opinion. Would love to see someone take a stab at it anyway.
