Neutralize Poison or Disease vs. Lay on Hands

Post by bighara »

So why is there the 2nd level cleric spell when one can remove a disease or counter a poison with the lay on hands ability? Is it simply for the more powerful effects of the higher spell check results?

Lay on Hands is only going to affect on person. Neautralize person has the possibility of curing everyone around them with a high enough spellcheck. Not only that, starting at the 20-21 range you start getting a bonus to saves vs poison for sliding durations (depending on spellcheck.) They're just different tools. Need a one time cure go lay on hands. Need to extra oomph, go with the spell.

Even the lowest successful result has advantages over the Lay on Hands ability. With a spell check of 14 I can cure poison in anyone, whereas I need a check result of 22+ to do so to a character of opposing alignment with LoH.
