...claims that they burn for 10 turns and 20 turns, respectively. Is this listed in the core rulebook or in another source somewhere?

as far as I can tell, the book doesn't say. But really, if you're running a game you can just make up whatever seems good.

P. 73 of the rulebook: One flask of oil burns for 6 hours in a lantern.

That's it.

Oh, yeah, I kept looking for torches but could not find anything about them.

If lanterns burn for 6 hours, maybe torches burn for 3? I don't have any real-world torch-burning experience, so I can't say.

In the rulebook torches are often mentioned alongside lanterns, so I thought they can burn just as long. In the real world though, a torch will go out in 20 minutes

I have a 30 minute hourglass on my gaming table. This is how long your torch will last. In game time, this represent a variable amount of turns but I find it works really well by putting the players themselves under pressure.

« As you debate what you do next, you can see that your torch starts to flicker... »

I also use this hourglass to roll for random encounters. It’s very visual.

That's genius.

I have a simple, mechanical egg-timer. I can set it for up to an hour. It has more of an audio effect, causing everyone at the table (including me) to jump when it rings.
