Help me out folks. I want some good ideas for Mighty Deeds of Arms when shooting a bow.
My "ranger" is 1st level.

Eyeball shot?
Leg shot?

The "stapling" shot where you pin someone to a wall/tree without necessarily damaging them, maybe? Or how about crazy ricochets to hit opponents around corners or behind cover?

The intimidate shot? Right between the villains legs (or tentacles)!

I think the already existing Deeds cover pretty much all the cool stuff an archer can do. Archery is pretty straightforward compared to melée, there aren't too much tricks you can do with a bow. Still, here are two ideas:
  • Firing multiple arrows.
  • Headshot.

A few others combined with those already mentioned in this thread:

Disarm. Immobilize by "pinning" a target's foot or footwear to the ground. Target various body locations as already mentioned. Pin various body parts/garments to other surfaces. Crazy ricochets to hit targets behind cover. Fire two arrows (at same target, two targets). Intimidating shot. Ruin/sever gear/items (such as severing a rope in half, firing an arrow that slices someone's scabbard free, etc.).

Ahhh, just pick up some Green Arrow comics (or Hawkeye, who is in The Avengers comics).

So would you take the suggestions from this thread, and rank them (best to worst), and only let a 1st level ranger achieve number 10 on such a list with a successful Deed die roll?

I mean, there's got to be something better he can do at each new experience level, right? Otherwise, it's going to get kind of boring for the player.
Unless it's the kind of player who just wants to be able to lobotomize with a broad-leaf arrowhead at Level 1, if you know who I mean and I think you do.

Low level stuff
Shoot through friendly characters to hit an enemy engaged in melee.
Use a blunt lead weight arrowhead to disarm (or knockout) an opponent.
Shoot two arrows aimed at different targets with one pull of the bow.
Pin someone's clothes to a wooden/plaster wall with an arrow.
Shoot a blunt arrow to press a button or flip a level to deactivate a deathtrap.
Put a flaming arrow through the enemy army's battle standard to destroy morale.
Throwing an arrow more than forty feet, with enough force to deal 1hp damage and disrupt the chanting cultist's spell.
Quickly dismantling your bow and using it as a zipline handle to swing down the (perplexingly handy) cable and deliver a flying kick.

High level stuff
Shoot around corners.
Shoot through a plate armor's helmet visor.
Shoot at extreme long range - from the top of a mountain to its base, perhaps.
Shoot while leaping from a rock floating in lava onto the back of a giant eagle.
Shoot a target that you cannot see, only hear.
Split the shaft of the previous arrow that hit the bullseye.
Standing on a wet slippery ledge and shooting an arrow through the waterfall while hiding from a dragon.
Using a bow to fire an icicle broken off the cave ceiling at a flaming salamander because you've run out of arrows.

I misread this in about the worst possible way. *facepalm*

There's always the classic "cut the rope with an arrow" trick as well.

In a game many years ago, there was an archer who wondered about shooting the rope the goblins were climbing down and overrunning us from... The DM told him, "roll two 20's and you sever the rope."

He decided to just go with taking his two shots, one each at a pair goblins.

You can guess what happened with those rolls...

To this day, if anybody at the table rolls two consecutive 20's, and that player is present -- someone* will say "you could've hit the rope!"

* Usually me. :roll:
