Secret door base detection rules?
Can someone tell me where in the DCC rule book I might find the base chance for finding a secret door? I see where elves have a +4 to this roll (pg 60), which I assume is a d6, but where is the description of the base chance for other races?

Re: Secret door base detection rules?
Where they appear in adventures, I think they are usually expressed as a roll vs. a DC, meaning they'd be ad20 roll (see Area 1-8 in Portal Under the Stars in the Rulebook).
Other ways are cool, too -- see Appendix R...

I usually do INT check vs. door DC.

Depending on the situation, the Judge and the group, a Luck check can be appropriate too. You could apply the Elf mod as a minus for a Luck check if desired.
Re: Secret door base detection rules?
Lately, I've been leaving it up to player's actions.
If they say they are inspecting and tapping on the wall behind the throne and there is a secret door there...they find it. I'll even settle for "I check the wall for secret doors," if the door isn't hidden in a very specific way.
In the past I've gone with Intelligence check vs. DC, though.

That's basically how I do it. If it was built by some kind of "master secret door maker" it might take a check, but otherwise, if the description is good, they find the door.Gizrond wrote:Lately, I've been leaving it up to player's actions.

Regardless of whether it's an easy one or one that, as described herein, requires a check of some kind - always roll the dice (and for me personally it's one of the few done out of sight of players). If it's an easy one, I don't really care what the roll is. If it's a hard one, I adjudicate. This way the process always looks the same and removes the temptation of meta gaming - which can happen to the best of players.
IMHO, YMMV, etc.
