Character Sheet and examples of play

Post by ecz »

Continuing in the process of learning of the rules I noticed three things.

- I have seen some examples on Internet, but it lacks an "official" Character sheet for game. Or at least I miss it.
Is there a reason for this?

- Reading the rules I feel there are not enough examples of play. Many RPG systems create an hero and show his progression throught adventures explaining the rules in the meantime. Think to the Cormac saga in Runequest, for example. This would help a lot to figure how the Character develops (the hard part of the system I think).

- For those as me used to run battles with map, miniatures/cardboard heroes and rules about engagment, range, facing etc. would be important to see a detailed example of how a battle is (or could) fought abstractly.

I know everyone has his own gamemastering style, but an example could help me and those who have my same roleplaying background.

any help or suggestion?
Thanks

Yes, they are the official sheets.

There has been talk of new sheets, illustrated etc but at the moment these are what have been provided by Goodman Games.

Don't forget to check around the forums for info and examples of play and the like. As to playing with minis...use them if you like, the game doesn't need them like some other games do but if you like them and have some you may as well play with them.

I like minis but only use them rarely otherwise people seem to forget how to describe things properly and how to visualise scenes in their head, like when you read a book for example. Both ways can be fun and it's good to mix methods of play up every now and then I think.

I saw you asked about Feats and Skills like in 3.5 on a different thread etc.. Personally I would just play DCC without them. I don't think they are needed when you have things like stat burning, Mighty Deeds and such. D&D 3rd Edition and it's many Variants like Pathfinder are fine games...excellent fun. I'm sure many avid fans play both games without feeling the need to convert to just one game. Of course, many roleplayers just use whatever they like from the entire history of D&D and good luck to em too :D

Lots of useful stuff here too:

no, that was not me...

I'm still trying to learn at my best DCC to present to my group the first adventure. More questions clarification requests will follow. I'll post in the Rule section of the forum if I need something more specific.
thanks again
