The genesis of "Curse of the Emerald Cobra" started with a 1st edition AD&D adventure I created ... well, let's say it was a while ago.

Anyway, it was set in the Amedio Jungle on Greyhawk. I don't see why the current iteration of "Cobra" couldn't be set in the same region.

It's definitely got an Aztec feel to it. A bunch of the ideas and names used in the adventure have a basis in both the Aztec and Mayan mythologies.
