DCC 35 pdf concern

Post by Akrasia »

I noticed that the pdf 'preview' for DCC 35 has a greyscale background.

Not only does this make the text difficult to read, it also consumes a lot of ink if you print it out.

Any chance that the final pdf for DCC 35 will not have the greyscale background? Simple white would be vastly preferable.

Cheers! :)

Don't worry, it will include a low-ink version.

The real challenge is the maps. The four poster-sized maps are a total of 60 pages when converted to normal 8.5"x11". Full color, of course. We're providing them as individual pages which the DM can print out and combine.

Not so dark that you can't read it, if that's what you're getting at. :)

Yeah, I'm a GenCon buyer of this. I have a very mild loss of vision (weakest prescription possible) and I had no trouble reading it in good light. Now when I got to far away so that shadowing occurred, yeah, I had to make my INT check to go into the light.

Will there be a smaller version of the maps (say one or two pages each) so we can print out a version without having to print out 60 pages

Joe,

Since it sounds like you are still putting the pdf package together I know a few of us would still like a file of the original maps at original size. It doesn't cost a horrible amount to go to Kinko's and print them out. It would also be nice if you could put a blurb in there that we can print these for personal use. Maybe even embed such a statement in the map pdf itself. So it prints out on the map, "personal use only, not for resale."

That way the Kinko's people who actually make sure your not copyright violators can be made happy.

^ What Treebore said...I don't want to damage my posters, and I do a lot of stuff online anway, so a combined .jpg of the Known World map and/or Player's Map would rule.

The 16th, same day he expects the boxes to be available in stores. He might do it a day or two earlier.

Hi guys,

The files are uploaded to RPGNow; it's up to them when they make the PDF available. I've asked for it to go on sale October 16. Other PDF vendors should follow suit.

One note on the maps: The zipped file is already 390 MB (!!!), and that's using 8.5"x11" pages for the maps. Each of the four poster-size maps is now 15 regular pages, suitable for printing on a regular printer. I tried to get you the full image files suitable for printing on poster-sized paper, but that would have added several hundred more MB to the file size.

As an alternative to printing on 8.5"x11", I'm looking at making the maps available in physical form as a stand-alone purchase on my web site. More to come on that.

The PDF does include low-ink (no background) versions of the Gazetteer and GM's Guide.
