DCC tournament luck in players pack

Post by Randobot »

Hey all,

In the players pack PDF for return to starless it says

"A character who has an ability score reduced to 0, by whatever cause, is considered slain and
irrecoverable. This includes players who voluntarily expend ability points through spellburn or by
burning Luck
. In those cases, the character is considered to have expended themselves to perform
whatever last action the ability loss was directed into (e.g., casting a spell or burning Luck to add to a
die roll)."

Am I doing luck wrong? How do you kill yourself by burning luck to 0 as a stat? Isn't luck a bank of points from character creation that can be replenished if your a halfling or thief but I'm confused.

Thanks!

The first thing to recall is that it's a tournament - so the timeline won't allow a halfling or thief to recover overnight.

The second thing, to add on to that, is from the rule book:
A target reduced to 0 Luck suffers such constant, bizarre mishaps that he is effectively unable to accomplish anything.
So in terms of the tournament, within turns, or even rounds, so many bad things happen that it effectively renders the character helpless at first, which then leads to the inevitable death in the long run - due to the strangest and most bizarre occurrences.

Yeah, you're not doing Luck wrong -- they're just spelling out how it's going to work in the rarefied atmosphere of a tournament.
