Re: Different Dice Combos, Different Distributions
Bit of a drift and maybe a stupid question: on 3d3, how many doubles are possible? and what are the probabilities of getting one? on 2d3, there can be only 3 doubles (1,1; 2,2; and 3,3) but in the 2-6, what's the probability of a double in 2d3? thanks! Note: all figures are rounded to the hundredth...

Re: DCC Booger Men!: What'z your best Monster source?
Judicious application of old-school stylings to the Pathfinder Bestiary books, and a few sweethearts from the D&D 3.5 monster manual. Basically I have every monster that I have ever used playing D&D, plus extras from many sources that happen to include a multitude of Lovecraftian horrors and...

I got the impression I heard something about a supplement? edition? or something? for kids... just can't remember where... Joeseph Goodman wants to have a pared-down version of the rulebook around to make it easier for his kid to pick up the game once the kid is old enough to be able to do such a t...

Re: wandering monsters reaction tables
I don't use dice to determine how monsters initially react to the party - ever. Never have. I also never have the party come across a monster or NPC without me knowing what that creature's current goal is (guarding, foraging, heading down the road to the next village for a pint at a tavern he doesn'...

Re: What'z going into your DCC Dm kit?
I intend on getting a Magic 8-Ball. Save yourself a little cash and write a chart: it's just a d20 with vague answers written on it floating inside there, anyways. My DM Kit: 2 vinyl battle mats, one small, one large (though not the largest available) just in case I need them. Dungeon Tiles (the Ci...

Re: Making DCC Accessible
I am one of those (apparently rare) folk who got into table-top RPGs by picking up a book when I was twelve and teaching myself by reading. Perhaps I am doing that thing that everyone does from time to time where we form expectations of others based on our own capabilities (I did it at age 12, so an...

Re: Ok, a few survivors and a little bit of gold
I try to have one magic scroll available for purchase if the players have to much loot. I charge an arm and a leg for it and because magic is so hard to find they pay up. I love inserting a bazaar with strange wares, or a run-in with a master smith traveling to hone his craft and perfect new techni...

Re: Different Dice Combos, Different Distributions
Changing the way ability scores are rolled has always been one of the things I fiddle with, spending hours checking the math and running some practical examples for myself... and then choose to leave alone. For example, I know that my players absolutely love the character they manage to luck out and...

Re: Darkness spell and Infravision
Two things are said that suggest to me that infravision is blinded by darkness (the spell). The first: "Creatures within are blinded." It doesn't specify that some are and others aren't, so I take that to mean all creatures that are not normally blind are made blind by darkness. The second...

Re: Is there a Limited Edition Cover #3 coming?
When Mr. Goodman announced that there would be more covers getting put on the DCC core book, he announced 2 of them, though he has only revealed one (the wizard cover). That's probably where the entry for special cover #3 comes from.

Re: Do we need War rules?
Like folks said, there are a lot of systems out there. I'm leaning towards the rules from the DnD Rules Compendium from the early eighties. It's probably one of the systems mentioned above. I'd definitely want to go with a non 3.x version. Minor correction so that people don't go completely crazy s...

Bard: "Done, and done." Sounds like you might be a good DM. I try not to be cocky, but I think you may be right... at the very least I've got a table crowded with people every Friday night that seem to think so (some to the point that they come around on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday nigh...

Re: Is our vision of Conan wrong?
My opinion on this matter summed up as an in-character vignette: Merchant: "You're an adventurer, eh? I've met plenty in my day. I even had the eh, pleasure of selling a fine sword to Conan for a fistful of rubies. The scars on that man... and the hair. I'd of thought he was a bear that someone...

Re: Do we need War rules?
Battlesystem 2e is not as heavy as the page count would suggest - there are a lot of 1/4 and 1/2 page pictures used to aid in the explanation of rules on unit size, movement, and other things (says that guy that hasn't cracked the book in years and might be remembering Players Option: Combat & T...

Re: Do we need War rules?
Rules for war would be great to have... though that is one area of rules where I have never seen an RPG system manage to both work well, and be easy to use. I tend to basically skip war rules all together, even when at war in a campaign, and just use "swarms" were I treat each unit as a si...

I saw awhile back on a review of either DCC Rpg or a OSR retroclone where the reviewer talked about how Dnd had changed over the yearz to the point where it was normal to see a halfling paladin with a talking pony that could teleport anywhere. I don't tink I could play in a group with that running ...

RevTurkey, good sir, I do believe you have a pretty fair assessment of D&D Next, bar one detail. Most of that cluttered up, fiddly "junk" is specifically optional - meaning that while you could use every last bit of it (background, theme, etc.) that you aren't "forced" into d...

I would choose Wilderlands of High Fantasy. Best sandbox setting ever and it fits the Appendix N feel too. I am in dirty nasty love with the Wilderlands. It has even completely eaten one of my home-brew settings (it's become a different planet in a nearby star system rather than being its own indep...
