Re: DCC Alignment question
I suppose that I had not considered there being a law vs. chaos "debate" when it came to whether the paladin keeps treasure for himself - I thought of it as lawful to take treasure and use it for means that propagate law, whether that be through taking a share as "payment", donat...

Re: Known spells - a minimum or a maximum?
I got a little confused by the spells known as well... especially because of patron bond, invoke patron, and patron spells. Example: the wizard chart says 4 spells known at first level, and there is specific mention that you get patron bond and invoke patron if you get either and that those two coun...

Re: Missing section on Patron Bond
For casting it upon yourself, there is really only room for either having invoke patron 3 times per day but no patron spell as a gift - or for getting the spell gift but still having invoke patron twice per day. For casting it upon others... I think keeping it pretty much as is for the 28-29 result ...

The best thing to do, in my opinion: Remember the following - this is the very first version of DCC, there are no prior versions, no older editions... just a brand new game that has some occasional similarities to a completely different game of the same genre.

Re: Limits to Spell Burn?
I have taken some inspiration from the patron examples in the book, and decided that a caster of a spell is not aware what form their spellburn must take until they have declared irrevocably that they are in fact going to spellburn, and how many points (though not where those points are coming from)...

Re: DCC Alignment question
One could attempt to justify a murder on the good/evil axis - taking one life is evil, but saving many lives with the act makes it less (or even entirely not) evil in the opinion of almost everyone I have ever spoken to. It is even this idea that caused our legal system to establish a difference be...

Re: Classic Modules
That looks kinda right to me. The treasure in those old modules seems like a lootfest as well maybe knock it down some as well. I've been using the general rules following to run modules from Pathfinder, 3.x, D&D and AD&D: 1. Remove all magical properties and enhancement bonuses of items no...

Re: Chain 10'
The reason its strange is that sometimes a 0 level guy gets one, and then he's rich already! But its not a terribly useful item. With such a short equipment list, its kinda funny. Two thoughts occur here... 1 - He's rich already. If a 10' chain is, as you claim, "not a terribly useful item,&qu...

Right... but no evidence of chaos has been presented, where their existence is mentioned as having rigorous discipline and a clearly established hierarchy that centers around their militant behaviors - a behavior expanded upon by the goblin entry that mentions how they are cowardly and unorganized, ...

Re: DCC Alignment question
I kinda wish the odnd alignments were good, evil, neutral instead of law, chaos, neutral. The boundries are so much more defined that way. ( wait does that make me a minion of law?) This is what I love (and hate) about alignment - i find law & chaos to have better defined boundaries than good &...

Re: Max Hit Points
I use rolls - just a simple roll the new hit die and add, no max unless you roll it approach. Though the idea of rolling your collected hit dice each time you level sounds pretty interesting, so I think I am actually going to try it out for a while and see how my players feel about it. I like that i...

Re: Thief Backstab
the wording in the book is set up as there being two separate circumstances (defined by the use of the word "or"), those being "behind an opponent," and the other "or otherwise unaware." I plan on using it just like that, so a thief gets backstab whenever the target doe...

Re: The pre-order shipments have left the printer!
DCC finally found it's way here to Meridian, ID - just in time for an adaptation of Saga of the Dragon Cult this evening. It's even bigger than my v20 rulebook, meaning it is now the biggest book on my shelf. Nice! Saga is a favorite of mine. Let us know how it goes! //H It's going great thus far -...

Re: How do you handle large groups in 5' wide hallways?
The only piece of advice I give when space concerns are brought up: Measure a hallway in your house. It's much less than 5' wide. The only thing that makes a map of 5' squares seem "small" is that many RPGs give use rules that limit man-sized creatures to being 1 to a 5' x 5' space... givi...

Re: Stomp the typo!
I'm not sure if this is a typo or not, but it sticks out. On page 71, Table 3-1: Weapons The garrote damage is listed as "1/3d4" I just wanted to verify that it is correct, since no other weapons do only 1 point of damage, so it looks suspect. Another one... I hope these aren't devolving ...

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
My experience with Gamescience dice is a bit... overzealous, I will admit. I own more than 6 lbs of their dice. However, buying (and coloring) all of those dice has given me some insight that I think some others out there have missed: Customer service. You got a die that just won't take the ink/cray...

Some ideas I have had, though the first is the only one I've used so far: 1. The village is being raided for livestock & slaves while it is being burned as a distraction, the PCs funnel down as they battle during the raid & trying to recover taken goods afterwards. 2. Eye of the Beholder - m...

Re: Fighter Mighty Deeds
Deeds are still a big trade off damage-wise, aren't they? Your attack die isn't added to the damage roll if used for a Deed. Expect maybe I'm confused on that rule, as I can't find it now when I look. Did I invent that? That is true! At high levels that is a lot of extra damage to trade off. You do...

Re: Deed Dice Bonus - does d10+2 always succeed?
I fully believe the intent is for high-level warriors and dwarves to succeed at any deed during a successful attack - after all, an 8th level character is 1 in 1,000,000, and should be supremely competent because of it. Think of it this way: That warrior, or dwarf, is so good at what he does that wh...

Re: Rules Q's for those who don't have the PDF
Regarding level drain: None of the undead monsters that are actually given examples of in the book are types that have, historically, drained levels. What we do have though is in the magic item chapter where life drainer is listed as a power for a magic sword, and drains XP much the same way as 3.5'...

Re: Firing into Melee
I have always preferred a variation on the %50 rule that takes relative size and number of bodies in the melee into account, and doesn't rely on archer "failure" for someone to get in the way. Examples: A man-sized character is in melee with a creature his size - the archer adds a d2 to hi...

So far my opinion on the best part is that it is the part between the front and back covers. To be more specific, in relation to the Android even, is that this is a game in which it finally "feels right" to have protagonists dressed in horned helms and fur boots mount their iron steeds (re...

Thieves and Reading Scrolls
