I point and jump up and down at the "mending" serries of spells which heals constructs. Clearly a steamborg should be able to benift from that. The Mechanical Soul ability was along the lines of another set of rules I wanted to implement where a percentage of the Player's hit points would...

my take on e6

for those who reallylike the high powered coolness of higher level play, e6 most certainly isnt for them. no harm done :) i wouldnt expect every game, or even all of my games to go to that variant. heck my drow war game certainly wont, that thing is destined for level 30 heheheh. but for sustaining ...

nice, i like. i think i've decided to run the remainder of my dragonmech campaign as an e6 variant, with mostly agreement form my players. my coglayer is concerned that he will not be able to adequately advance in his classes abilities; the capstone feats you presented will help a bit. its going to ...

mech customization

pg 80 of the dragonmech book states that it is is possible to improve a mech beyond the base profile in terms of strength and other statistics per the guidelines "listed below" page 86 mentions that you can certainly build onto an existing mech (change its stats etc.) according to the guid...

Example from a game I am currently DMing: A mech jockey in the party wants to be the pilot of a personal mech. The story is not centered around mech combat but rather the draconic prophecy (Eberron/Dragonmech mix, future eberron essentially). There is little in the way of large scale mech combat th...

Certain steam powers (like the pilot light) have in their descriptions some information about fuel and number of uses. If the steam power or piece of equipment doesn't specifically state anything about fuel or number of uses, I think it's safe to say that it doesn't require any and something like t...

tread stuff

As you say, I think using treads would provide the mech more stability at the expense of speed. Specifically, the mech should receive bonuses to resisting things like bull rushes and trip attacks...maybe it should even be immune to trip attacks. The downside would be perhaps it only moves at half t...

craft DC's

One thought I had today was that even at level 6 + feats, it might be extremely difficult to make some of those sky high Mechcraft DCs required to construct mechs in the first place. You might need to design a mechcraft feat chain that would allow characters a chance of succeeding. yes i had that s...

On page 55 of the core book right before the list of steam powers is a section entitled "Building Steam Powers of Different Sizes". It indicates that you can build a steam power for sizes up to Gargantuan with only an increase in cost and weight. <snip>...In any case, I don't think it wou...

So to answer your questions with that newfound knowledge: a coglayer cannot choose the siege weapons proficiency as his mech weapon proficiency as it covers weapons not attached to a mech. Since siege weapons can be used on mechs, and mechjockeys are proficient with all mech weapons, I'd say they'r...

As a default, I'd say the repair damage is lost first. Most steamborgs in combat would probably try to get hit in the metal parts because A) they don't feel pain on the metal parts, and B) with the exception of their steam engine, the metal parts aren't essential to their continued life; they won't...

treads

one or two mechs detailed in the dragonmech setting have been drive by treads rather than legs, like the orcish terror tower from the mech manual. there is a steampower which can add treads to an item, but what i'm thinking about it more permanent use of treads on a mech and how to rule them. logica...

a question about installing steampowers on mechs

say i wish to install some steam powers in my mech to make it better. the dragonmech book mentions the possibility of having to 'scale up' the steam powers in size to work on a mech. but there is not indication given for the exact mechanic. does a steampower have to be scaled up to be the same size ...

refueling steam powers; fuel exhanger from steam warriors

to quote the information from steam warriors, pg 86, "For example, a pilot light normally has 10 uses before needed to be refueled, but a pilot light with a fuel maximizer would allow 20 uses before refueling." I couldnt find anywhere other than this that says exactly how many uses a steam...

OPTIONAL RULE: STEAMBORG REPAIR Every steam power or class ability possessed by a steamborg accounts for 2 HP. These HP, once lost, can only be regained by repair. To repair this damage, the Craft (blacksmithing) skill must be used. The DC of the skill roll is 10 + the total mechanical damage suffe...

All right. Just making sure I'm understanding the rules correctly. 3 options. 1. Long, easy, but expensive: repairing a badly damaged mech. 2. Short, hard, but cheaper: building a mech from scratch 3: Short, easy, and fairly cheap: buying an entirely new mech. you're mostly right with a few alterat...

DC is the key

by easier i think it specifically means the craft DC is much lower to repair than to make a new one. Yes, if you were to repair it point per point you'd pay more in materials, but the DC for repairs is much lwoe rthan the DC to plan/design/craft a new one.

Creating rules for a PC that needs two separate kinds of healing is more work than we want to ask the casual player for. As an optional rule, for those of you who want more realism in a setting where steam-driven mechs fight dragons from the moon, how about this... i know it seems a bit cumbersome ...

here's some food for thought from enworld's boards: THE E6 VARIANT FOR D&D / D20 http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=206323 While i know it would definitely bring certain things from books like steam warriors out of the realm of possibility for many characters, this variant could also explai...
