Re: DCC font
The font is Duvall small caps (for the logo), Cooper Black Std is also used in some parts of the book I think and is very stylish besides.

Re: DCC Ravenloft?
Where I've been struggling, though, is along the path of finding an alternative to "only hit by +1 weapons or better". Maybe there isn't one. But I've been trying (mostly in vain) to figure out how I can represent a creature being difficult to defeat without using that kind of sledgehamme...

Re: Familiars... Do the ever grow more powerful?
I am actually more a fan of them not scaling at all, so that at low level the familiar is a significant portion of the character's powers (since it is taking up about 1/4th of the character's spells known) but at higher levels the familiar because a much more minor benefit and the wizard himself is ...

T1 - The Village of Homlett, though I swap out the giant frog encounter with a much wider moat around the moathouse that requires trudging into the water or some ingenuity to cross, and disgusting cross-breeds of catfish and frog large enough to swallow a man whole. ...and it has its own path of adv...

Re: burning luck
I am of the opinion that since Luck is such a precious and rare resource that the player be made aware of exactly the amount that would be needed to turn failure into success... otherwise you get a situation where players are even less likely to utilize Luck burn than they already are - and there is...

Re: Allowing level-up during funnel adventure?
chiming in with my procedures on the matter: I am very strict about characters only leveling up while on "down time" somewhere relatively safe (their base camp or civilization chiefly) - except for the 0 to 1st level transition, which I have happen as soon as there are only enough PCs left...

Re: manifestation
I invite the players to describe their own manifestation, but they mostly just roll... either way the consistent part is that they roll once ever for each spell (though I allow changing of manifestation by spending time "re-learning" the spell)

I plan on doing so once they've been a bit more hammered out at my table - they are kind of rough right now and I am a stickler for quality when it comes to sharing things with others.Skyscraper wrote:TND: would you be willing to share your class build info, if you haven't done so already?

Re: burning luck
This is not something that you will find actually written anywhere in the book or any of the modules that I know of: There could be magical effects, strange beings, or magical devices which would augment any Luck spent before a roll - or even require such spending before the roll in order to accompl...

Re: Deed actions that would insta-kill an enemy
If I remember correctly the rules mention that Mighty Deeds can not be used to cause greater damage to an enemy. They do and they don't. It is mentioned that deeds like "I cut his head off!" which are meant to have an effect of only killing the monster faster are not things that should be...

Re: The Funnel - Curious About How Others Run With It
My group generate (by hand with the truest dice we have available) 3 or 4 characters per player (a total of 16 to 24 PCs) depending on how many players are participating in the game. We have a customized race & occupation chart that allows us to play in the Wilderlands of High Fantasy setting, a...

Re: clarification on Mighty Deeds of Arms
The Wizard faces FAR more danger casting a spell than the warrior swinging his might deed. Unless you have house ruled on a fumble the Warrior can kill not only himself but everyone else! Would you mind directing me to any misfire or corruption results that are lethal to one's self or one's party? ...

Re: clarification on Mighty Deeds of Arms
When this topic comes up I usually go into it with a post about how Mighty Deeds are the warriors "thing" and that they shouldn't be limited or discouraged any more than one limits or discourages other classes from doing their "thing" (thieves backstab & skill, clerics use th...

Re: Converting 3rd edition Skills and Feats to DCC RPG
All of this is, obviously, my pure opinion: Feats - drop 'em in all cases that the feat is not something that grants an entirely new power or ability, such as keeping Awesome Blow and dropping everything else. Those feats that are kept should just be considered special traits of the creature in ques...

Re: Chill Touch
Yes, the range is touch (melee). No, the spell cant affect ranged attacks. Most of the effect results specifically state that the caster's hands are charged with energy, but none of them mention imparting that charge to anything else - so a range weapon would logically not possess the charge to carr...

Time to share some anecdote: The party was attempting to sack a temple out in the desert in the name of the party cleric's god, and had managed to foul up their plans and get surrounded by a horde of lizard-man slaves being commanded into battle against he party by a trio of priests. As the battle w...

Re: Stayin' Alive!
Comparing lethality to other old-school styled games that I know about, I have to say that DCC is the least lethal - assuming the same style of encounter design and GM playstyle across the board. Some classes in DCC receive more hit points than their old-school counterparts (warriors d12 vs. the d8 ...

Re: number of Charaters per Player
I run things at 1 character per player so long as I have 5 or more of my players on hand and things work just fine - they would probably benefit from hiring on some NPCs to assist them (torchbearers, pole-prodders, pack bearers, and weapon caddies for example), but as of yet the players have managed...

Re: Durability and Power: comparing Normal Man vs DCC Charac
I still can't get these good results where the Warrior whacks everyone, but dang it... I will. They aren't even particularly "good" results, they are simply the most probable outcome - and that becomes even more true when dealing with a character that is more like the type that ...

My advice on finding a die-roller to do testing with: a fistful of real dice - I use Gamescience myself, but Chessex and the rest do just fine. Best to test all scenarios and theorycraft with what you will actually be using to play, so stay away from digital die rollers unless you plan to use them f...

Re: Durability and Power: comparing Normal Man vs DCC Charac
that was a great post. I am somewhat skeptical that a 3rd level warrior is going to last that long against 10 men at arms, even with the cool stuff mixed in. He gets 1 attack a round and may have something like 18 hp. He'd need 10 rounds to knock those guys out and they might need like 6 hits to ta...

Re: Durability and Power: comparing Normal Man vs DCC Charac
I would just go with calling DCC characters "Hero" for the purposes of mass combat rules like Book of War at 3rd level. Reasoning: in OD&D, which book of war is built for, there is next to nothing separating "regular dude" from "hero" that is difficult to quantify, ...

Re: Multiclassing... would it make godlike characters?
Conan from the books. Excellent stealth skills and wall climbing, excellent fighter, but not a backstabber. That just makes him a warrior with an exceptional Agility. At least that is my take given the following: 1) Conan's background could be said to have included such skills and thus he is traine...
