Re: Thief Action Dice
The biggest section in the Class write up is "Thief Skills", so one might assume those are the skills that the Action Dice section is referring to... However, the interpretation that they can perform ALL skills with a d20 is an interesting one. Given that some folks clamp down on how ofte...

Re: Real world time
I think looking at it in rounds is probably the most difficult way to do things. If you know how much time you have, walk through your adventure and work out what's the most likely *mid-point* in the session. If you've got a 4-hour slot, than that's more or less where you "should be" afte...

Re: Spell power progression scale
I'm being obtuse. So I'll drop that line of approach and be more direct. IMHO, worrying too much about the logical reasoning behind the specific progression of spell effects kinda misses the point of DCC. Let go. Just. Let. Go. Lean in to DCC. Lean in hard. Lean in to spell effect progression that h...

Yes...I understand how they've been in D&D and for how long. I'm asking because I don't understand why they would apply here.

Re: Spell power progression scale
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Also, there is not a rule in the world that says the pattern you've sussed out is required for any new spell. I've used it, but that's because I'm lazy as hell and assume that those playtesters Gnome mentions got it just about right for maximum fun. But I'v...

Re: Spell power progression scale
I'm fascinated by this question for a number of reasons...
1) Who answers.
2) Who CAN answer.
3) In what way does this matter?

I would also say that if you're dealing with a cleric, that patron aspect of a god is essentially irrelevant. Ignore it.

Re: clerics and patrons & clerics and gods
I'm thinking he's asking something else...and maybe I'm wrong but... Patrons have specific spells they can gift their minions. See: Kith of the Hydra for Azi Dahaka. Gods can also be patrons. See: Wizard, Supernatural Patron (pg 48): "Demons and devils...elder gods...whisper secrets in exchange...

Re: Abolish the Thief Class
I doubled down...I ADDED things to the thieves in our group. One, during play, decided to describe taking certain actions with an acrobatic flourish. By 4th Level the character was using Matrix-like moves to get in position to backstab (think Trinity in the opening sequence running around on walls t...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
Hi all- New to DCC and RPGs in general here. Having never played anything tabletop, I was attracted to DCC as a system because it's derivative of old-school speculative fiction rather than carrying on the tropes of other tabletop systems, and because the funnel makes it easy to run a game with a bu...

Re: Luck penalty and zero luck
The book is pretty silent on how much Luck to award or penalize, but it'd be nice to have an idea of what numbers were used in playtesting so that we have at least a statement of intent. When it says that Luck can awarded at the end of an adventure, how much are we usually talking about here? Is 3 ...

Re: Luck penalty and zero luck
If someone does something outstanding during the adventure, I will give 1 point of Luck to them on the spot -- it's usually the kind of stuff that gets the table excited, so it's easy to spot. Sometimes, if someone cracks a particularly good joke that suits the situation, I'll grant a Luck point to...

Re: Patrons for non-wizards
The Patron Bond spell does allow for other classes to be bonded. It requires the wizard be bonded first. However, I could see a pretty clear path to using that spell as a model for some kind of right of passage/tome/book/etc that a Thief or Warrior could find in a dusty dry old tomb that would allow...

And, in case someone wants to throw a RAW at me...here's the text referred to in the quote: page 94 (emphasis mine).... Ability score loss, except for Luck , heals at the same rate: 1 point with a good night’s rest, and 2 points with a day of bed rest. . . . Luck, however, does not heal. Repeat: los...

Re: Luck penalty and zero luck
Luck is different. It never "heals"...unless you're a Thief or Halfling. Otherwise, it is more akin to rewards for service to gods, patrons, alignment, etc. All of those things are on a much longer time scale than the compressed time in a tournament. In a campaign, it would have been extre...

Re: Patron taint and / or god taint
For the two deities worshiped by clerics in our game, I created a few extra spells, some of which are modifications of existing spells, a couple brand new. I then created lists of spells for each cleric that are a bit different - each list being more in line with the specific deity worshiped. I also...

Re: The Missile Damage box on character sheets
Also I've just recently seen a discussion where people are adding the agility to damage, justifying it by saying a more skilled archer can cause more damage.
Interesting, not for me but I can see the point. Anyway, That would be used there as well if your house rules are so inclined.

Re: race-as-class vs class-as-race
fit your character into a role that might be better for their stats. Why? Because you can as a human? "oh my int and personality are really low, so maybe I'll be a thief or warrior instead of wizard or cleric" Right...so humans have essentially no racial benefits - can't smell gold or see...
