Ha! Great topic! Let me see: Mal: Fighter 3/Rogue 2/Anklebiter 2 Zoe: Fighter 6/Rogue 1 Wash: Mech Jockey 6 Inara: Rogue 5/Aristocrat 1 (originally I was going to give her just 2 levels of Rogue, but the Companions are supposed to highly trained) Jayne: Barbarian 4/Rogue 1 Kaylee: Coglayer 5/Mech Jo...

And it's still going on! They're talking now about how the different psi races would fit in Highpoint. I have to take a few minutes and jump in there at some point.

Now that more people have read and praised Castle Whiterock, this thread needs to be reawakened! I'll talk a little more about the editing side. (First, though, I just re-read Adrian's and Chris' posts. Wow. I'm stunned again -- Don't taze me, bro! -- by the dedication and the perseverance that they...

Dieter, Thanks for the update! As a big fan of the setting, I'm glad that all the cool stuff (clunky mechs, the importance of crews, tactical magic, lunar dragons!) will still be key parts of the game. I'm looking forward to the editing assignment. :) I'm sure the regional factions (the Stenian Conf...

Great thread. I'll have to check some of these out (whenever I find time in my new parenthood ... how does one do that?), and here are some recommendations: Count Zero by William Gibson - I found this to be much more entertaining than Neuromancer (for those who didn't dig the latter book). I would l...

Re: Death

This one is nice. I can keep bouncing the team back and forth between this one and the first. What with all the deaths and stuff. Death...is good. Yes, there are a number of good ways to die in this collection. {Insert evil DM laughter} MUAHAHAHAHA! Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Fe...

Steampunk fashions in modern laptops!

You have got to see the images on this steampunk feature on Newsweek.com . Absolutely beautiful! A tech designer applied a Victorian/steampunk aesthetic to current laptops and ... wow. Besides the photo I copied here, there's one image of an active laptop that, if the screen were round instead of re...

I'm a Neutral Good Half-Elf Ranger. I think the last time I took this quiz (about 3 years ago) I was a Chaotic Good Half-Elf Bard, but I guess my answers have shifted away from the arts and wealth and more towards history and stability. Go figure!

If there's a B&N or Borders near you, just give them the ISBN number so that they can look it up and order it if necessary. For Castle Whiterock, the ISBN-13 number is: 978-0979332944 (at least according to Amazon).

I'd agree with that. Pretty much any module that deals with creatures, mysteries, artifacts, etc., from a previous age should be convertible to a DragonMech campaign. You can simply say that the "stuff' from the earlier age is from the days before the lunar rains or from the bygone First Age of...

Yep, good questions. By getting "official" responses, do you mean more concrete "yes/no" answers? From a pure information standpoint, it's safe to say you're on solid ground when you get answers from Dieter and Matt. They've written and shaped a vast amount of the information on ...

Some thoughts: Dragon Shaman, Warblade: I wouldn't be surprised to find some in Cinai (there's even an Order of the Raven for warblades practicing the White Raven style) or perhaps among the raiders in Cragskeep in the Freeholds. Duskblade, Warmage: Arcane knowledge is valued just as highly as milit...

Benthosruthsa rocks! And yes, the Castellan should be on any list like that. He's earned iconic DCC status, right along with Chalychia and Tsathzar Rho.

To go with the DCC theme, let's focus on ... what else? Violent death!

Killed by kobolds
Mangled by minotaur
Pulverized in pit trap
Licked by illithids
Charbroiled by black dragon

Sure, D&D is and has been a game about archetypes to a certain extent. It's the whole point with character classes, anyway: to present a "role model" a player can take advantage of. BUT: I do not see the wisdom in slapping a label called "LEADER" to certain character classes...

All this talk about "more clearly defined roles" in an adventurer party gives me wrinkled eyebrows. How do they want these roles to be "more clearly defined"? Is it just me or do the roles don't have a clear definition as is? "More clearly defined" sounds to me like &q...
