Re: All those tables...
What I've done for people new to the game is hand out those mini-character sheets, 3d6 and tell them to roll the stats for all of their characters at once. When the entire group is finished, I do professions. Have your players call out their rolls one at a time and circle around the table until all...

Re: DCC RPG genre expansion
Would like to find more info about that world, hard to do since it was never liscenced for RPG use, and is only on occasionally on on Cartoon Network. Check out http://www.rpglibrary.org/settings/thundarr/ , a Thundarr RPG, or the Thundarr web site http://www.thundarr.com/ The mechanics of the RPG ...

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
yeah, the monster dice are good dice as loaners and for demos. Which is why I'm getting a set. I prefer my Gamescience dice, personally. +1 I placed an order for the funky dice from Gamescience - Gamestation is the "new"name, iirc - yesterday. All of them except the d30 are emerald. I did...

Re: So GG is not putting out more DCC rulebooks?
I think part of my problem with the assumption is that so far it seems to be more about a whole book of this, a whole book of that, etc. This is why I prefer the Annual approach, where you could potentially get a nice, varied selection of such material in a single book. You get more content, but yo...

Re: Blog Post With More To Come...
Looks like next weekend will be the start of the campaign. Before I get into doing any actual play experience posts I was just wondering if there is an expectations when it comes to actual play posts. Put simply, what do people WANT or EXPECT in these types of posts?

Re: First Time Judging in 20 years...
Two things regarding DCC in particular, from judging for two groups I sent through zero level modules: Don't let them forget luck! Oh wait that was already mentioned. Well yes, that. Also, the somewhat "self defining" nature of the occupational skills seemed to flummox the players. I was ...

Re: First Time Judging in 20 years...
I am not the most experienced Dm but a few things I find help... Using the character's names when possible. Not just the player's names or character types. Look 'em in the eye from time to time. I think it helps make actions seem important. If you have a rule or situation argument brewing maybe ask...

Re: First Time Judging in 20 years...
I'd say "don't stress the small stuff." Just because you think you saw a rule somewhere about something doesn't mean that you need to use it this time. You might tell the players that you think there's a rule, but just get them rolling dice and keep moving. You can look it up and discuss ...

Re: First Time Judging in 20 years...
Portal is pretty forgiving. If you have a lot of characters, you can skip initiative. I did and it didn't affect play much, just alternate PCs and monsters. You'll do fine, it's kinda like riding a bike. :-) Stress the luck mechanic though. My players haven't used it at all. I think you kinda have ...

First Time Judging in 20 years...
With the end of the summer semester approaching, I have managed to get a few people together that are interested in DCC RPG and have a game scheduled about 2 weeks from now. I am planning on using THE PORTAL UNDER THE STAIRS adventure from the book. I have only got to play about 6 times since return...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed
The d3 (along with that weird d7) just look "wrong" to me... I remembered that I had some FUDGE dice so I am going to use one for the d3 with the minus = 1, blank = 2, and plus = 3. Now to work on that crazy looking d7...

Blog Post With More To Come...
I posted an initial reaction to DCC RPG at http://semiretiredgamer.blogspot.com/2012/07/dungeon-crawl-classics-rpg-d-perfected.html . When the summer semester is over in 2 weeks, I have a few players that are going to participate in a campaign. I am going to post about it by starting with character ...

Re: DCC RPG genre expansion
I keep getting the feeling that these rules would be a great match for a game similar to Gamma World. Specifically, I keep coming back to the old Hannah-Barbara cartoon Thundar the Barbarian. I think that DCC would make a great Gamma World style setting, particularly if it was more dark and less go...

Re: DCC RPG genre expansion
That's not expansion of the genre - that just is the genre! Me, I am seeing what happens when I blend the styles of Stephen King's Dark Tower series with some Final Fantasy, and toss the whole mix against a backdrop similar to Conan, Korgoth of Barbaria, or maybe even some of the stories from Heavy...
