Re: Fantastic Deaths

Chester the Red Wizard! After having mightily spellburned (maxed Charm in the One Who Watches From Below), Chester soon afterward failed a DC 5 Agility check and fell off a pyramid to his death.

Re: DCC Quick Start Rules 2017 : Encounters & XP

Is it usually guessed prior to the game by reading the encounter/stat blocks or do you observe first how the players complete the encounter in game to determine its worth in XP ? I would say the latter. Did the PCs minimally interact with the threat and bypass it? Did they rush in and attack? Did t...

I suppose that in most cases the starting die would be the D20 ? Except for second attack, two-weapon fighting, etc. if I'm correct, right ?
Most times, yes. In DCC stat blocks, the action die is specified.

Not in these United States! :D

More importantly, some are "gray" and some are "grey," and best practice is to use just one spelling.

Re: Mighty deeds silly question

I understand the point you're making but where's the line between allowing players to decide whatever they want and the Judges role as Judge? I get it, not to read the Crit's verbatim, but simply allowing players to make up whatever they want negates the need to even bother playing the game. The pl...

I'm currently reading the late Tom Deitz's David Sullivan series (Windmaster's Bane &c.), which has a nicely developed cosmology of Faerie and other realms.

Re: Understanding Ability Score Damage

Drop the bonuses. That's why those attacks/effects are so dangerous. Same as spellburn -- it hurts, and it hurts for a while, which makes it meaningful. Exception: I don't drop the characters' hit points (fiddly to track, and kinda mean).

Artificial intelligences are less likely to recognize mutants as human, and may consider mutated animals to be pets.

You can't get much more Halloween-vibed than Starkweather Mountain, the 0-level funnel included in Transylvanian Adventures. It's a good tight one-shot.

The wizard was spellburned down to minimum stats (spell or die in the previous session), failed several easy saves, blew a Spider ...

Perished on the Purple Planet

RIP Chester the Crimson, Beastmaster and Space Wizard, late of Lake Geneva, WI, an adventurer through space, time, and weird dimensions. He arrived on this strange world luckless and spellburned up to his (luxurious) eyebrows, but determined to survive, so close to level 3, never admitting defeat, u...
