Re: Alternate Barbarian

I like the proposed class... but then I like most of the proposed classes that I've read on these types of threads. I'd have no problem using several versions of the same class-type (Barbarions, or Half-orcs, for example) in the same game. I'd simply explain away the differences by the fact that the...

Re: Ability Scores at 2, 1 and 0

... I had a question about the cleric lay hands ability though. For 3 dice, lay hands says it can cure poison. As a Judge would you allow this to cure all of the poisoned ability scores, or just remove the poison from their system? For my games I ruled that the cleric can remove the poison and any ...

Since I have some free time I thought I'd up-date this thread with some of the critter builds I've used for the modules that I've run most recently. {EVERYTHING WAS RANDOMLY ROLLED... otherwise it wouldn't be nearly as much fun!!) My list looks really similar to Zargon's. The only differences for my games being at the level of 0... 0 STR= dead, heart and lungs stop working. 0 Agility = Inescapable Paroxysm (Seizures) Character dies in 1d3 hours without treatment. But I also don't let characters burn their scores to ...

Re: DCC RPG Slipcase edition

I'll by a new copy of the rule book if need be, but I really don't want to pay that much just for 16 more pages... I'd rather just pay for the new pages in a PDF download so I can stay current on the rules and not break my wallet. I don't need a slip cover to store my modules in, I put those in plas...

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea Help

@ maxinstuff> While I fully agree that fancy combat styles are much more common in an eastern setting, I have no problem adding them into the mix because not everyone likes or wants to play their games in Feudal Europe (900-1400ad). And, I also agree that most of the fighting was just thumping on th...

{...} A game methodically paced by the players is a different beast altogether. Megadungeons and, I suspect, wilderness hexcrawls play very differently. A dungeon like The Barrowmaze by Greg Gillespie is not a place one can clear out in an afternoon (or in one go, even if split over several evening...

Well, the manuscript is finished and I've handed in a copy to Goodman Games for review. We'll see what happens, in the interim, I've got most of the art blocks set up to turn the artists loose on the project. While I was waiting for editors and readers to report back I needed something to do, so amo...

He's only run out of charges once because he only loses the spell 5% of the time and tends to use spellburn to cast it again before resorting to the staff. The spell was tough at 4th level when his bonus was +9, but he lost it 10% of the time and that seemed to be enough to slow him down. I have co...

I had the same roller-coaster experience as others for this year's FRPG day. I had signed up for two back to back table sessions of 2 hours late in the day. I had prepped a story sequence that started with the pregens from Imperishable Sorceress being the survivors of a night of chaos and mayhem (0-...

@ GrandTitan> Welcome! I'd have to agree with the others, 'logic' and 'that which fits the story' are the best guides for how to get a new PC into the group... One of my favorites is that the incoming character was the victim of a teleportation spell that went wonky. If the new character isn't a wiz...

Re: When PCs die - how do you handle this?

@ cthulhudarren> you're right that is an awesome technique and I've used it many times. I would however add the following caveat: "Know your audience." Not everyone is interested in gory or graphic descriptions of the death of their characters, sometimes it just makes a traumatic situation...

Yup, there is no rule covering the increasing of stats and it sounds like you don't want to have to deal with having everyone sync-up their questing schedules. I think a good rule of thumb is that "nobody gets something for free... there are always onerous strings attached." EX: Player wan...

As far as the OP is concerned> Nothing on page 93 (Recovering the body) mentions luck burn; furthermore, nothing on p.95 (Luck Burn) says anything about using luck burn for recovering the body. It simply states under the second bullet point that it may be used for other rolls. So the real question i...
