Re: Patron Problems- The Three Fates
I'd let them tempt fate (sorry, pun intended). If they refuse to kill their twin, then that's fine, but that doesn't mean that the Fates are going to just sit idly by and let them disobey. Turn it into an adventure hook, send avenging furies after them, for their insolence. If they are high enough l...

Technomancer? I'm not familiar with that phrase in DCC RPG. Is that from a fanzine or some other third party source?

Re: Making the Dwarf more unique
I think the general idea is how to make Dwarfs more their own thing, not more powerful.
Like most here, I like the class as written, but I do agree that they could use something to stand out more.

Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D sour
I'd care a whole lot more about "balance" if DCC RPG were a competitive war game, but it's not. Players have to cooperate to survive and the simple fact that Halflings regenerate Luck and give Luck to other characters makes them a hot commodity at my game table. Plus they sort of look like...

Re: Max Hit Points
There are folks who have so much opportunity around them, that they can be very strict about things and still have plenty of players who agree with what they're doing and how they're doing it. And then there are us slobs who don't have all those options, and need to 'work with our players' to reach...

Re: Max Hit Points
I think the 0 level D4 removes the need to further enhance hit points but each to their own I guess. That's how I would prefer it, but the people I play with have other ideas. Well under the referees section what does it read in regard to who is in charge of the game  I'm sure I could drop the...

I would think hard before rolling dice in secret; it's a slippery slope into 'fudging' It doesn't have to be. Roll the die then cup your hands over it, slide the screen out of the way, then lift your hands if they take your roll. No fudging or questions. If people are that worried about it, have se...

Re: Fighter Trumps Dwarf Fighter
True a Halfling is a poor(er) fighter, but with sneak silently, the ability to crit on a natural 16 when dual-wielding and being a mobile luck battery, makes them one of the most interesting and indispensable classes in the game. The only balance question I ask myself when we play this game is, &quo...

Re: Multiple patrons & losing patrons
I'm reminded of the axiom, "everything is permissible; not everything is advisable." Double patronage has never come up in my game, since everyone seems terrified of patron magic, but it seems like just the kind of situation I would love to judge if only for the opportunity to generate hoo...

Re: Who handles the tables?
It's certainly close in spirit to OD&D, BECMI or AD&D 1st edition, but for people that cut their teeth on 3.x or 4th or didn't like the older TSR versions, they seem to really be put off by DCC's style. In my old gaming group I had one person complain about the art (blasphemer!) another pers...

Re: Who handles the tables?
@Midges I think the biggest issue I've run into with people that object to DCC RPG without playing it, is that they feel like this for two particular reasons. 1. They've been playing MMOs and CRPGs for so long that their expectations of tabletop games is now more informed by the way those types of g...

Re: Max Hit Points
The player and I both roll. The pc gets the better roll. I'm going soft. I hadn't heard of this method before, but I like it as a compromise over the "pure roll" approach. That's because I made it up on the spot a couple of months ago. I had a zero with one hit point go warrior, and rolle...

Re: A question of Magic at 0 level
I can see the reasoning behind that, but I can't agree with it . To my mind, wizards and the like in DCC are a raspacious lot. They have been hiding whatever magic they can find from their masters, and that knowledge no matter how incomplete calls to them. Like the One Ring or the Dark side it want...

Nothing. To me it's a blank receptacle. Probably a very nicely bound book, with parchment suitable for scribing spells, but definitely not a "loaded gun."Weisenwolf wrote:What do we assume is in the wizard's apprentice's grimoire?

FYI, if you don't have the game but want to get a feel for the rules and how it all works, this is a good place to start.

Re: A question of Magic at 0 level
If you feel like you want to introduce spell scrolls and the like to 0-level play then by all means follow your muse. Bear in mind that your players will probably identify one or two of their peons as cannon fodder pretty early on and I'd be a little wary of people trying to game the system; sacrifi...

Re: A question of Magic at 0 level
You don't have a class until you reach first level. You're a turnip farmer, a squire, an ostler, a miner ... That's it. If people want muck about with spell scrolls and grimoires untrained (1d10 for a spell check) then by all means let them try ...

Re: Custom Character Sheet available for criticism and ridic
Had a sick day today, so I've tinkered a bit more, but now I'm calling it "done." Mostly because I think it's just about where I want it and partly because I'm pretty hopped up on Nyquil©.
If anybody makes adjustments to the .pub, I'd love to see what you come up with.

Re: What constitutes a Failure when it comes to Turn Unholy?
Regarding the triggering of the disapproval range increment: I'd assume that an unholy creature that avoids being turned doesn't necessarily equate to the Cleric "failing" re: the action itself. E.g. maybe the creature made a saving throw. So what constitutes a Failure when it comes to Tu...

Re: Max Hit Points
I must be getting soft in my dotage. I've got a lot of RPG neophytes in my game and they aren't quite as enamored with the mortality rate of vanilla DCC RPG as I am, so as a compromise I decided to let them roll twice at each level and take the better of the two. S - O - F - T! I sort of like the id...

Some interesting ideas in there, especially the "Goblin Cunning."
Not to be too critical, but I did notice quite a few typos and some formatting errors, but it looks like a great start. Thanks for sharing.

I figured I should take the time to address some of your points I like the sheet -- love that you used the slot-based encumbrance system (one of my faves). Couple of constructive feedback items: The spell sheet is slightly inaccurate, however -- Turn Unholy checks = d20+level+personality+Luck modife...
