Re: The Iron Tavern: DCC RPG Blogging

The Iron Tavern talks about all of the tables in Dungeon Crawl Classics and why that really isn't a bad thing. In fact, it might just be the key to bringing the magic to the game.

Re: Four fixes for DCC

It's like: look, if you're going to put a piece of cake before me, and then remove it after only one bite, why did you give it to me in the first place? Don't tease me! I think the analogy is more like putting a "whole cake" before them. If they take a slice here and there, they don't get...

Re: Four fixes for DCC

I know some people will argue that the +10 healing color spray is not broken. Okay, call it what you will The very discussion on this thread is pretty revealing to me. People are going out of their way imagining ways to kill the character, retire it, steal his staff, or otherwise bend the story to ...

Re: "recovering the body"

A question about how to check luck for rolling over the body came up today. It seems that the beta rules say this is a Luck test versus DC 10, but the final rules just say "Luck check" which is roll under Luck on a d20. This is an important difference in that a character making a test wit...

Re: New Podcast.

For the record, though, the abilities gained by 0-level demihumans are in the book, page 21: Demi-humans at level 0: Characters whose 0-level result includes a demi-human race must advance in class as that demi-human. For example, a dwarven miner levels up as a dwarf. 0-level demi-humans are able t...

Re: Four fixes for DCC

Regarding spellburn during the adventure climax and the threat of additional encounters afterwards, I have one word of caution. I would suggest a truly random chance for something additional happening on the way home, with the random encounter roll done in full view of the party. Even if you assign...

Same with me. Luck is about the only one I use the roll under method for. The others tend to be DC based - so roll a d20 and add your modifier.

Re: Four fixes for DCC

Wizard spellburn--especially combined with some halfling aid--lets a wizard more-or-less guarantee a massively powerful spell effect with a fair degree of regularity. This is particularly true for spells where the effect requires a save, because using spellburn can make the save DC virtually imposs...

Re: Four fixes for DCC

Running, tinkering with and reading about DCC, I’ve encountered four problems. I’m offering my solutions to the first three – and asking for help with the fourth. The game is great for some tinkering! 1. The balance is spotty in some places Disclaimer: I do NOT care about balanced encounters or cla...

Re: 77.5 Tower Out of Time

This mod definitely looks like a good one based on a very quick skim. I need to sit down and read it more closely. Origins next week and I am running it there! I also agree the character sheets looks great as well. I also appreciate that this is a limited initial release. It is great knowing I can t...

Re: Best funnel for young players? Advice sought.

I have run Sailors and Portal for my son (9 years old). Okay, Portal was pretty short, the group TPK'ed by like room 3 or 4.. Perils of the Sunken City would be good as well. Ooze Pits has some child sacrifice, so for a kid I might consider tweaking that component just a bit. Depends on the kid I su...
