I got mine, RK, but I feel ya. I gave up on my local store. I felt like they were out of touch and never had the kind of stuff I wanted, so I went direct on this one.
I did buy a Warhammer starter set from the flgs recently though, and that wasn't cheap...

Re: DCC Alignment question
I love alignment debates also, though I think their more a philosophical debate than a religious one! The Chaos/Law Good/Evil Axis makes it extra interesting for talking about ourselves and thinking about moral codes psychologically: for ex, it doesn't say much to me if my friend tells me he thinks ...

Re: Known spells - a minimum or a maximum?
I think that's what you start with but you can find more through adventure.
Of course, the impression I get is that it is not so simple as sharing spellbooks between mages, as each spell is mercurially attuned to each magician, so some sorta something has to go down... quests for ex.

Re: Can Clerics only know 4 spells or can pick 4 every morni
I'm of another opinion. I say Clerics can get new different spells, but they have to beseech their Master and may not always get what they ask for. DM can roll for it or it may depend on the cleric's current relationship... and I'm also leaning towards "Cleric" as a more limited arch-type,...

The reason its strange is that sometimes a 0 level guy gets one, and then he's rich already! But its not a terribly useful item. With such a short equipment list, its kinda funny.

Re: Max Hit Points
I made a compromise wherein pcs get 1/2 the Stamina score plus a die roll. This gives them a base of at least a few hps. I'm considering not allowing Sta bonuses at further levels, just go by the die roll.

Re: DCC Alignment question
Apropos of App N, I'm reading Quag Keep right now and it's really interesting how Law and Chaos are a pungent force in the world at all times. Even a fighting man can literally smell a creature of Chaos. Being Lawful or Chaotic is described as an allegiance, being "Sworn to Law", which has...

Got it in California!
It is a big book.
I got the regular cover, was a little jealous of all the heavy metal cover, but it looks great, a kinda misty picture.
Of course, I've already read the thing... now I wanna play with instead of pdfs!

Re: D'sC play reports
I figured the Minotaur's Curse wouldn't allow him to give up the medallion unless he was granted mercy. Type IV is indeed 4e. It has become really apparent to me how different systems make fore different styles of play. The non gaming gal really enjoyed it. She's an actress, so she related it to imp...

Re: Ability Checks vs Ability "TESTS"
Yeah, you're right. But some DM's ask for a d20 roll equal to or under a stat. Its the AD&D ability check. Dude has suggested calling them "Tests" which I think is a great idea, since I'm thinking of bringing them back more often myself. My idea, posted in another thread is to ask for ...

Re: Dice Chain idea for Ability Checks
I totally agree that it's inconsistent, and back in 2000, getting rid of roll under mechanics was one of the things I liked about type III, but now a think the real issue was that there was no advancement or differentiation when you always roll d20 against a stat. I think a rule for stat increases (...

Dice Chain idea for Ability Checks
So, I had a thought about a fun way to manipulate difficulties with roll under ability checks. How about a standard attempt at something you are familiar with (ride a horse, whatever) is a d20 rolled under a stat, but a more difficult task or an untrained wizard trying to ride a horse would roll a d...

What ho! Another game. The regular group didn't get together to continue White Plume Mtn so I DM'd for my buddy and his gf who had never rolled the dice before. I pulled out the Heart of the Minotaur one page dungeon, so spoilers for that! http://campaignwiki.org/wiki/DungeonMaps/One_Page_Dungeon_Co...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95
hmm, well the way i always play is you can only get one free swing a round. This comes from type III/IV games, but it makes sense to me. That's how you get overrun, or how the dudes escape. So like, if it was my game, you get to slay one rat as they swarm around you...

D'sC play reports
Just thought I'd report games played. Feel free to chime in. I DM'd from the new pdf for the first time last night. I ran a bit of White Plume Mtn. for 1st level characters, converting on the fly. It was a bit of a haphazard game. I wasn't totally prepped, and I kinda sprung it on my normal Type IV ...

Re: Halflings mostly weak sauce?
I haven't played with it yet, but I've thought of giving halflings a couple extras, like Luck bonus to AC (probably a bit much), and allowing double throws for daggers darts and rocks. Also one "Lucky" skill chosen from the thief list.

Re: Initiative
Because combat goes so quickly i have been doing initiative round by round. This goes well with the randomized nature of dcc combat.
Ive been considering moving to side initiative, since it more or less works out that way. Im thinking of having he with the highest mod roll for the pcs.
