Re: Canadians?
I live in the States, but I'm marrying a Canadian at the end of this year and we are talking about moving up to Toronto together in two or three years from now. I know that may seem like a long time from now, but the prospect of meeting a bunch of diehard DCC roleplayers when I do finally move up th...

Re: Selling loot...
Or do you just allow players to immediately monetize stuff so they can get on with the Dungeon Crawling? Do they sell goods for full retail? How much less? I've used a simple rule for years now that I think works well. Every member of a given population equals 3 gold pieces worth of wealth that can...

Re: Armor Check Penalty and Non-spellcasters Reading Scrolls
2. When reading scrolls, do Thieves modify their Cast From Scroll die by the Armor Check Penalty? If so, is this only for Wizard spells, since Cleric spells are not normally hindered by armor? I would ignore the armor check penalty for casting from a scroll. I imagine wizards have many gestures and...

Re: Race separate from Class
So going over stuff, I figure, a 0-level dwarf, elf, or halfling, could simply take ANY class they wanted at 1st level (though the racial classes would be limited to only that race). Of their "racial abilities" they would only keep the one bonus and the one penalty that they have at 0-lev...

Re: Race separate from Class
This may sound impossible to believe, but my players don't pick the best options for their characters. They really do role-play their characters. The player at my table who rolled up "halfling gypsy" as his starting occupation thought the character would end up being a Thief if she survive...

Race separate from Class
Before I begin, I skimmed through the archived playtest forums and I like the discussion that occurred here: http://www.goodman-games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=19159 While I like the concept of the race being a distinct class that the character inhabits, I'm beginning to agree with my play...

Re: Three Things I Don't Love About DCC
Re: mercurial magic, I'd try to go with it as-is (love the ghost idea) but I'd consider that to be one "implementation" of Read Magic. If you can find or research another version of Read Magic it would work differently for you. So right there he has a goal, find a more usable version of t...

Re: Three Things I Don't Love About DCC
2. Mercurial Magic. I hate that some of the results can be crippling, especially when attached to an otherwise beneficial spell. This is the only thing that really bothers me about the game. My roommate and I rolled up some characters and ran them through their paces and one character ended up a wi...

My name is Patrick. I live and work in Madison, Wisconsin. I was born in 1976 and didn't discover D&D until 1984, just before Gygax was evicted from TSR. I've written about my life spent gaming over on my blog: http://nerdwerds.blogspot.com/2012/01/epic-post.html My experience with Appendix N wa...

Re: How Far Ahead Do You Plan Your Campaign?
To answer the question of this thread: I never plan farther ahead than the next adventure. The first adventure is always a struggle for me but once the players have taken action in the world it's easy enough to lay the groundwork for whatever should follow. When the players keep getting distracted w...
