Re: d16 for ability tests? Talk me out of this idea.
I also want to keep this down to a single die roll. Most of my house rules are an attempt to make this game even simpler and play even faster so I have to keep that a priority. My newest idea is to do a roll-under system but grant a -2 bonus to ability test rolls for your prime ability. This means w...

Right. And what is that game & who is it geared for?? :D Pretty cool! Sorry didn't mean to make that sound like I was correcting you. I was just trying to add to what you said, suggesting that it's even cooler than you made it sound because the whole game is printed on a GM screen. All in all i...

Re: Three Things I Don't Love About DCC
Please remember this thread is not intended to bash the game. As I stated I am a big fan and it's mainly to discuss things I want to house rule. House ruling has a long tradition in the hobby and I am continuing that tradition by trying to come up with a more "old school" ruleset for my DC...

Three Things I Don't Love About DCC
Inspired by this thread here ( http://www.goodman-games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=41514 ), I decided to create a separate thread to discuss the things we don't like about DCC. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this game. It's about as near perfect to my dream system as I ever imagined ...

Re: Three Things I Love about DCC
For me it's: 1. The spell casting system and the gonzo results that can be rolled. There is just so much here (patrons, mercurial effects, familiars, corruption etc.) that I would buy the book just for this. 2. The mighty deeds system 3. Having a "luck" system in place that allows us to cr...

Re: PSG: The Crawler's Companion Kickstarter is live!
If you've ever used the Purple Sorcerer character generator please support this cause. Funding has kind of stagnated lately and I'd hate to think this won't reach the final goal. The utilities at Purple Sorcerer have seen a ton of use and it's been entirely free of charge. Things like this are a hug...

Re: (BHP) Appendix N Adventure Toolkits KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!
New 17K goal is a kids RPG game. You get it if you ledge $50 or more even if the $17K goal isnt reached. Bump up that pledge to $50 if it isnt there already! :D It's actually a GM Screen with a full game printed on it (from the sounds of it). I love this idea (even if it will be many years before m...

Thanks for pointing these out. I will definitely follow them.
A Lankhmar-vibe is pretty much how I view DCC as well (more because of my limited Appendix N knowledge than anything else at this point).

Re: d16 for ability tests? Talk me out of this idea.
Another idea I had was to apply the ability score modifier to the score itself when making a roll-under test. Thus: 3(-3) = 0 4(-2) = 2 5(-2) = 3 6(-1) = 5 7(-1) = 6 8(-1) = 7 9(+0) = 9 10(+0) = 10 11(+0) = 11 12(+0) = 12 13(+1) = 14 14(+1) = 15 15(+1) = 16 16(+2) = 18 17(+2) = 19 18(+3) = 21 The on...

Re: d16 for ability tests? Talk me out of this idea.
What would you do in a situation where someone has a 1 or 2 in their ability score? Would that be auto-fail territory? Also, your numbers quoted are off by 1 unless you were meaning to also have a "natural 16 auto-fail" rule and forgot to mention it (16+2 = 18, which since you say 1+2 = 3...

d16 for ability tests? Talk me out of this idea.
I've always used the "roll under d20" system for ability tests but something about the probabilities has always bugged me. To me, a score of 18 should be a 20 on that scale and a score of 3 should be a 1, in my opinion. I've always accepted it as a quirk of the system and a limitation of t...

Re: Two questions regarding deeds of arms
I played that the Deed die could be used for extra damage OR for a deed but not both. Thus most of the time the players simply choose to use the die for the extra damage, but at key strategic moments would try to pull off stunts. With crits and fumbles already flying off here and there combat still ...

Re: How about some alternate classes
I think it's a bit overpowered if you ask me. My biggest issue is that they are nearly as good in a dungeon setting as the wilderness. I would probably reduce their pathfinder bonus to cap out at +6 but improve their bonus in the wilderness to +4 (or something along those lines: ie. level bonus +2 b...

Re: Magic Wand
Finally, the caster may grant the wand one unique ability, which can be used through the wand as though it were a spell. These abilities should be no more powerful than a third level spell as a rough estimate, and should be thematically tied to the spells contained by the wand. These special powers...

Re: PSG: The Crawler's Companion Kickstarter is live!
Flurry of support today with the new backer levels. This project is now FUNDED! Woot, let's blow past the goal now and get some nice stretch goals in place. Some ideas: 1. A way to roll a range of numbers as input by the GM (ie. if I want a table from 1-200 I can input that). 2. Magic Sword generato...

Re: Birth Auger at +0
What about this, it is a touch of bookkeeping, but not bad if you have a room with a dry erase board. You could keep a 'Luckiness record', everytime someone rolls a Nat 20 or a 1 they would check it off on the board. For every so many their luck would go up or down. So if the player is lucky or unl...

Re: will there be a Book of Patrons?
I'm also involved in this project, and you and I are of a mind. I've started a patron generator -- really more of an idea generator -- that gets you to patron power level, "sphere," Invoke Patron results, and availability of patron spells. The rest is left up to the imagination of the GM ...

Re: mercurial magic
Couple thoughts: 1. I think the range for "no change" needs to be increased. Currently only 20% of spells have no mercurial effect attached to them. I think this needs to be closer to 50% and I am considering expanding the table for this. I just think the "cool"/weirdness factor ...
