Re: Do you have go-to voices for your NPCs?

Sure! I do voices, and even some body language, specially for old characters, crazy or villains if they are doing an speech, or a tete-a-tete chat with one of the players. It's a great way to create empathic feedback in the players, for instance when interacting with a disgusting NPC they hate desp...

Re: Rumblings About Ritual Magic...

I can't remember the specific threads either, but I recall that there was a fair amount of discussion of ritual magic and how it could be used during the beta test. I think there are 2 aspects of ritual magic within the game and I address both in Liber Arcanum. 8) 1) the structure of how ritual magi...

Re: Liber Arcanum

I found that this had been sent to me by Min McGreggor, the newest member of our intrepid band of illustrators. ***Removed*** I got the artist's permission, because I just had to share. All in all, I'd say 2014 is off to a great start! {edit: 4/17/14: The joke's on me, 'cause yet another a...

Re: Liber Arcanum

I'm really looking forward to the Liber Arcanum . I'm a huge fan of your first book; Creatures, Critters & Denizens , Tortog... just this past weekend I was using the Imp from that book and the players went nuts. A gnome PC ended up running off with the soul box  and a barbarian PC had...

Re: Need to give character a STD

Skyscraper is wise. Was it the oily butt-hair? The comedy value of your last post (oily-butt hair comment) just seemed to act as an ironic underscore IMO and added weight to your previous statements. So, in context with your other posts... yes. But I was in a hurry and should have been mo...

Re: Need to give character a STD

Skyscraper is wise. The one time I had to deal with this behavior in a game group I inflicted the STD penalty on the character (a really horrible one that involved necromancy and leprosy) but that just made it more fun for the player... Eventually I asked what everyone else at the table wa...

Re: Mercurial Magic - Who uses it?

I love both Mercurial Magic and Spell Manifestation results and use them all the time, but I'd have to agree with jozxyqk and Exedor... as fun as these spell tweaks are they can be more than some players are willing to deal with. I think the most consistent comment I've heard from several players no...

@RC> Considering that yesterday was the first time I've seen your version, I'm heartened by some of the similarities in design, it tells me I'm on the right track. {EDIT 10/22/13: AHA! I removed this part now that I've read it a few more times, I get it now.} Anyway, I use the 2nd level spell Wizard...

Thanx Zargon! Encouragement is always welcome! Re: Liber Arcanum

Just thought I'd check in with everyone... Art is progressing well, but Liber Arcanum is as big as the CCD, so there is a lot of art and even with three artists its going to take a fair bit of time to get everything inked and set down into the layout. If all goes well we're looking at late Spring or...

Re: Monster stat block - levels and crits

... As a suggestion, I think it would be really handy if a monster's crit table and dice were included in the standard stat block. Just putting in, for example, "Crit: III/d6" would save a lot of mucking about and pauses in the action during combats when a monster rolled a 20. Welcome to ...

Re: pocket dimensions

^^That sounds awesome!^^ If Liber Arcanum ever sees the light of day, I wrote up a Rite (7th lvl spell equivalent) that involves a minimum of 7 wizards to cast who can design and create a Pocket Reality . The spell table starts at 24 and tops out at 48+. The spell goes beyond what was possible in ol...

Re: ANOTHER Mystic Class - unfinished

On the low Hit Die, I was sticking with the traditional "glass cannon" formulation used in the 1E Monk. Considering the abilities, especially the ones that overlap with Thief and Cleric, I could see going to d6s but probably not any higher than that. Ah, I see. With that as the design cri...

Re: DCC World Tour 2013 - Define the Buckle

Any themes you might like to work with? Any themes you don't like to work with? Are the characters going to start out with the item, or are they questing for it? {Important question, because if they get to use the item during the game it's powers and effects will need to be moderated a bit. If they ...

Re: multi-classing

FWIW: I haven't done much with this except some of the play testing, it isn't perfect, but it works fairly well... though it isn't split-classing in the traditional way. In Critters, Creatures, and Denizens I have a little blurb on pages 14-15 that offer a method for adding class levels to critters,...

Nice work! Hit points seem a little light for something that will probably be expected to do a fair bit of fighting. :D FWIW: I've been working on a class like this one recently, but mine is a sub-set of the warrior class and focuses more on the Martial arts and chi magic so maybe that is coloring m...

Neat idea! I confess that my game groups over the years haven't had much interest in that setting; mostly because of the psionics. Here's a few ideas that occurred to me after reading the thread... relying entirely on GM instinct... 8) I suspect psionics will be your biggest challenge (and the lion'...

Metal? Metal! Humph, Metal is for dwarves. The elves in my games use ceramics, or glass etched with runes. By the time they're close enough for enemies to hear the melodic chimes of the eleven armor, it's already too late for the targets. It's also one of the reasons why the elves in my ga...

Re: Alternate Barbarian

@Rostranor> Thanx, and I totally get that the minimums increase with level. It makes a lot of sense for the character build, but the progression of the minimums isn't what bothered me. It just seems odd that a 9th level barbarian has a randomization factor of +3 to +21 and the 10th level version onl...
