Re: DCChammer

The closest I've come to making use of anything WH related is a few adventures in 3E where the party repeatedly ran into some Dark Eldar slavers. I have used Beastmen extensively in both 3E and DCC, too.

As far as potential Patrons go, geeze, pretty much any of the deities would make a great patron.

Re: ire of gods

how do you go for it in your campaign? what is appropriate luck penalty for someone stacking herself with magic items? I haven't needed to do this, but I guess I would make the penalty small at first, but then gradually increase it with each gaming session until the character finally decided that t...

Re: songs of mighty deeds

Usually the deeds are spontaneous in our games, and have involved things like jumping down half a flight of stairs into an enemy, and trying to throw their sword at a goblin shaman who was casting spells from a rock ledge above the party. I did have one warrior who worked with me to develop his own ...

Yes, to be sure NJPDX, this particular Kickstarter may not be for everyone. I spoke to Britt last night, and he is gearing up for things. With the enormous success he is having on the Kickstarter, he is in place to purchase his own engraving machine instead of needing to farm that piece out to a thi...

Re: 5th edition Warlock

it's not surprising that some similar concepts come up. Indeed. Everyone's favorite "new" rules concept from 5th edition, Advantage/Disadvantage, is certainly not new: Barbarians of Lemuria featured a similar idea, and apparently it was originally a rule concept from J. Tweet's Over the E...

Re: 5th edition Warlock

I remember reading some stories a while back about some albino dude with a magic sword who made a pact with a patron, too. Probably hardly anyone has ever read it though. It was by some guy named "Heath-rooster" or something. Elric? Never read them. But that wasn't a RPG game. Many stick ...

Re: Deity Disapproval & Luck Modifier

Well, I guess what I'd say is that the Judge is the one who judges how to interpret the rules, not the players. Players can certainly provide input and express opinions, but as the Judge, it is your call. How do you want it to be done? That's how it should be done. But Like NJPDX expressed, it looks...

Re: magic item identification? What's Your take?

... do you use it or do you have another method for characters to discover the magical properties of an item.... The first couple of games I ran, I gave the characters access to a library in the city where (for a price) they could do some research to try to identify something about a magic item. Th...

Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?

I hear you Hemlock. Wizards and Elves can absolutely dominate events even at low level if they have a strong position with their patrons. My guess is that you are probably in a tough situation though, because I'll bet you've been playing without enforcing many of the suggestions above (or your playe...

Re: Appendix N Book Club: Hawkmoon: The Jewel in the Skull

... I liked the story, but the writing was a bit amateurish. Characters are very simplistic, and there are a few occasions where time just suddenly advances a week or a month, which I found a little awkward. The plot moves along in fits and starts, but advances relentlessly - no unnecessary words i...

Re: Best sources for adding equipment/magic items and monste

I have found that, by far, the best source for these things has been my own imagination. Once you break free of the concept that you have to use something someone else created it can be quite liberating. Having said that, I know sometimes you really do need some external inspiration and there are so...

Re: Weapons Without Pluses

So I may be speaking out of turn, but I think what people really have issue with are not necessarily magic weapons with bonuses to hit and damage, but moreso magic weapons that have a bonus to hit as the only attribute. +1 longsword, huh? Booooring!! Do the rules starting on page 366 create somethin...

One way I have thought to handle petrification type spells is to have them go into effect after a certain duration. Say six rounds. It starts at the feet, eliminating movement and slowly moves up each round. If they can kill the offending creature before it completely consumes the character then th...

Personally, I would go the route of using the Mighty Deed to pull it off at all levels. IMHO, that's the game mechanic put there to cover things like this, and it keeps things simple.

The second level Cleric spell "Restore Vitality" allows a cleric to do so.

I suppose a cleric could also probably petition his deity for a special case restoration using the Divine Aid ability, too.

Hello and welcome to DCC! There are a number of ways you can handle this, none of them really right or wrong, just whatever suits your idea of how it should happen best. Here are a few thoughts: 1. Some people do not record experience for zero level characters, choosing instead to just level up whoe...
