Late to the party, but I'm really looking forward to this project. Hopefully things work out.

Re: Awarding XP
significant risk of death should be worth more than 1 XP IMO and I wouldn't award it for finding treasure unless it was magical. And yes I would award it after each encounter.
The published 0-leve lfunnel modules seem to imply that characters will hit level 1 before the end of the module's finale.

Re: Abuse of Runic Alphabet
Spellburn of 20 points for ANY reason ought to have serious consequences. I wouldn't allow contuous rest in between adventures for more than a few days. That means he is going to be crippled for a long while. Also, perhaps some rival magic users sense this disturbance in the ether and start hunting...

Re: What to read next?
Lieber's prose is very light and easy to read and you'll probably rip through his stuff quickly. When you get done, definitely give Jack Vance a look and of course Robert E. Howard's Kull, Conan, Bran Mak Morn, and Solomon Kane stories. There's just something about those two authors' tone and style ...

While not strictly "Appendix N" I just started reading some Sci-fi and fantasy authors who were contemporaries of Howard, Lovecraft, et. al.
Hope Mirrless' Lud-in-the-Mist and David Lindsay's "A Voyage to Arcturus" are both great.

Re: DCC boxed set?
I'll just add my two bits and echo the other yes votes. I would find this kind of thing eminently useful. My one reading copy of DCC gets passed around the table quite a bit and I'm loathe to use my limited edition print in play.
The judge's screen would be especially welcome.

Re: Question regarding Hit Dice
Very much so, thank you. Basically, just try to pace the dungeon a little and don't have 10 hit die monster rock up to first level character. cheers Generally speaking it's a good idea to present challenges to the party it has a shot of overcoming most of the time. But that "overcoming" d...

Re: Core Book Second Printing ?
I think if you purchase it from Goodman Games directly, they'll receive the most money from the sale. However, if money is really tight and you can't afford $39 plus S&H then you might check noblenight.com or trollandtoad.com

Re: QUESTION: Warrior Crits (threat range) on second attack.
I would say that the highest number on the action die would be an automatic hit. I would have to see how the increased threat range worked before I made a call on crits. Monster Using a fifth level warrior as an example I see a couple of issues. First, in the bold-type example above, a secondary at...

Re: Contemplating Thief Skills
I am curious if judges allow thieves to backstab more than once per fight. To me they need total surprise . That's how I would run it, unless there is some kind of (major) distraction that resets direct observation. To me a rogue/thief should cleave closer to the "utility knife, coward" a...

Maybe I missed it on the read through, so apologies if that's the case, but Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi's "Fire and Ice" was pretty good when I saw it as a teenager ... no idea if it holds up.

Re: DCC RPG Dice
I love the look of those dice. Who makes them, if you don't mind me asking? It seems like all I ever stumble into are the Zocchi/gamescience sets (which I love too). I picked them all up at Gen Con last year. They're Koplow dice. http://www.koplowgames.com/ Ah OK thanks, I see Koplow dice as indivi...

Re: QUESTION: Warrior Crits (threat range) on second attack.
My ruling would be no automatic hits on a natural 14 and no criticals unless their second action die made it possible to roll inside their threat range. That means they wouldn't be eligible to crit with their second attack until level 7 and the only automatic hit should be on a natural twenty. But t...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death
I think accepting player death is about frame of mind. In my experience a lot of younger players cut their teeth on D&D 3.x and MMOs where dying is either uncommon (by rule and mechanic in modern tabletop RPGs) or at worst a minor inconvenience (in MMOs). There also seems to be a lot of emphasis...

Sadly, today I had to put my Isle of the Unknown DCC campaign on the shelf. We had a blast and had the pleasure of play testing some of the latest Third party resources. There is some seriously awesome stuff released in 2013 already and more to come! But, this thread is about that lump in the back ...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death
This method would allow one to postpone suffering the effects of burnt luck until the new step (5). I.e. you burn you luck, your luck score remains temporarily unaffected, and only after having benefitted from this burnt luck does the point burn actually kick in. The first method doesn't make much ...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death
The way I have understood it and applied it is: Taking the same example you give above, the bonus subtracts from your die roll, just as you say. Thus a character with a Luck score of 10, can roll even up to a 16, and his "bonus" will subtract 6 from his roll (16-6 = 10) so that his modifi...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death
Here's the text for "Luck Check" on p. 19 Characters can make Luck checks to attempt feats that succeed based on Luck alone. The judge will provide the specifics of any attempt, but the attempt is usually resolved by rolling equal to or less than the character’s Luck score on 1d20. Let's s...

Re: Question: Thieves, Luck & Death
Hello all, Been running my DCC game since December and on Session 13, coming up. Having a great time. One situation has arisen that gives me pause. As we all know, Luck can be burned to give a character a chance to alter a life-or-death roll. I assume this would include the "roll-the-body"...
