Re: Old School Character Sheets
I think Wizards need room in their spells list to detail Mercurial Magic and Manifestation information. That is something that room is something I see missing on most character sheets.

Re: + 1 shields
[Edit, just realized my math is all wrong. The amount less in damage is totally dependent on what roll was needed to hit the character before the bonus. If the opponent would hit on an 11 or higher on the d20 before and it is now a 13 or higher that they need that is a 20% change, not 10%. So, edits...

Re: + 1 shields
This is definitely a case where I bring in bias from other games. Without the question being asked I wouldn't even have stopped to question that these shields give that plus bonus to AC as well as whatever other "special" powers they have.

For a higher level adventure the player could also run a few henchmen or hirelings that are lower level to fill out other classes.

Re: Spell duel - Recognize spell to counter
My sense is that spell duels are rare enough as is. I think that if a spell is being cast that you have a counter to you would recognize it immediately and automatically. After all, it is invoking the very powers which you have written upon your mind. Even from a purely rules balance point of view, ...

Re: Wizards taking over
Another totally different option is to have alternative "explosive" actions for the other classes as well. Does both the Deed die and damage dice explode for the warrior? Maybe the luck die should explode for the thief? Halflings could get an extra attack as well as the crit whenever they ...

Re: More "crunchy" weapon rules?
...but what about how the difference between a longsword and a two-handed sword, mechanically speaking, being 2 points of potential damage gained at the cost of -1d of initiative and -1 AC? That is, to my players, too harsh a cost and has made the player that original thought "I'll use a two-h...

blackwing, that post was exactly the right length. I think you've developed a wonderful take on how projectile weapons could work in these sorts of settings.

Re: More "crunchy" weapon rules?
For a warrior I'd be willing to bump Mighty Deed actions up "a notch" if they match the weapon type used. Two handed sword to sunder, battle axe to cleave, war-hammer to knock back. "A notch" probably means +1 on the Dead die result. For other characters I think it is less import...

Re: The Kickstarter madness has me thinking about dice
I appreciate that there are those who don't mind rolling dice and doing math or re-rolls or other work arounds. And I did get a set of game science dice so I could have a complete set, but I am convinced the d5 does not roll fairly on the vinyl chessex mat surface that will always be on our table wh...

After the first day I thought the project was going to really need to stretch for the $10,000 goal. Now I'd agree that one looks quite achievable and the $15,000 goal is within reach. No need to get pessimistic now.

The Bonus Goals (in terms of monetary targets) are shown on the campaign page's main image: #1: $2500 #2: $4000 #3: $6000 #4: $10,000 Well, now I look smart! I had thought I'd seen them before, but when I scrolled to the bonus goal rewards and didn't find them there I did a ctrl-f search on the pag...

Speaking of "stretch" or bonus goals as they are called in this campaign. I can't find the indication of what $ amount you intend them to be. Is that deliberate mystery? As things close in on $1,000 it is probably appropriate to name the first one at least.

Re: (BHP) Appendix N Adventure Toolkits KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!
I have yet to see any OSR Kickstarter or IndieGoGo campaign be sapped of momentum by virtue of having 15 days more time, and I fail to see how having less time to hopefully meet stretch goals is a good thing. All of the projects I mentioned succeeded very well indeed, and even met many stretch goal...

Re: (BHP) Appendix N Adventure Toolkits KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!
30 days is insanely short though; most are 50-60 days. You're giving yourself precious little time to meet any stretch goals. Tales From the Fallen Empire is 50 days, f'rinstance. Barrowmaze II was the same. ACKS and its Companion, and Astonishing Swords & Sorcerers were all longer too. I actua...

Re: (BHP) Appendix N Adventure Toolkits - KICKSTARTER PREVIE
Looks stellar, but I agree with the comments that it isn't great as a backer to have multiple "upgrades" all together only some of which I want, especially the multiple copies of items which is rarely what I'm looking for.

Re: D&D Next publishing adventures for DCC RPG
I think they will. There is even a note on the play test character sheets say essentially "for a more old-school experience ignore this half of the character build.
That really simplifies things and indeed makes it pretty much between Mentzner Basic and AD&D in complexity.
