Game Master's Screen
The Game Master's Screen is available for download at the Eldritch site. It does bring up several questions: Table 2.1: what is a D16? (Is that just 3d6-2) On Table 3.1: why did designers choose to mix labels (L, I, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, P, T) instead of just all numbers or all letters? Defense vs. Attack:...

Re:
ERP can handle this sort of house ruling with no problem. I'd be inclined to do that sort of thing myself (which is why I included it in the monster sample). Even though I might allow a mix die-ranks from different abilities, I'd still retain the rule that no more than 3 dice can be thrown at a tim...

Re: What are you thinking of doing with ERP?
I had pretty much decided on using the Dawnforge setting from Fantasy Flight Games. It's heroic and fantastic. However, I don't like d20, so I was looking for another system. It appears that ERP will work really well for it! Wow...I had ALSO been considering the Dawnforge setting. It never felt rig...

The thing with Eldritch skills, however, is that they have so many possibilites for expansion into specialization and mastery...a basic ability can branch out into a very large tree. Non combat skilsl are the same. Stealth can branch out in to ambush specialization or shadowing in general, with mas...

Re: Building races with ERP
Movement in ERP is abstract, players describing such movement as necessary, while the GM tracks how it will affect actions and timing. So, a group of Adventurers enters a large dungeon room to engage a group of Goblins (using the abstract movement you described). The Mage and the archer hang back. ...

...As for wings, with the abstract movement rules, that would not be complicated to put into play... First, thanks Dan for all the quick responces on these forums. That is very nice to see. When you get a break :D from typing the quickstart, perhaps a quick Design Blog on how the Abstract combat/mo...

Lots of questions (and I’m sure many of them will be “wait for the rules to come out” type of answers): What is the difference between (Unarmed) Brawling and Pugilism? Are they mechanically different? Likewise for grappling? I see 4 defence pools (Weaponry, Evade, Dodge, and Deflect). I assume you c...

Re: little details
There are no encumbrance rules in the system, because movement does not require the use of a battle mat or minis (so why track encumbrance?). With many of the other popular rpgs putting more emphasis on battle mats, grids, combat manuouvers, etc, what made you decide to take a different approach? A...

I assume the Eldritch Role-Playing System will give players the choice to create the standard fantasy races (elves, dwarves, etc)? How difficult is it to modify or even create a new PC race in the system? Have the 'packaged' races been painstakenly ballanced so it would be impossible to change them ...

Re: the Core Mechanic
It has been show that the main game mechanic is based on ascending die-ranks, tiered into a basic > specialization > mastery format. How does (superior) equipment and/or environment affect this? From the quote below, it looks like it is a simple bonus to the die results. The Swordsman swings, rollin...

Re: New Fantasy RPG?
As you noted, it is a classless system; characters are built by choosing any combination of abilities. Beginning characters are created using character points, and are granted additional points to improve abilities as they earn levels. Occupation is presented as an option for additional direction. ...

Re: Will Eldritch Role Playing be OGL?
Ainereve has been described as a 'mid-fantasy' setting. It has also been mentioned that Eldritch is designed to be instantly compatible with anything approaching "classic" fantasy game settings. Customizing ERP is easy, whether it's for unique races or new powers and abilities (I admit tha...

Very good explanation Dancross, thanks :D One additional question: Are there any limitations on the amount you must deduct from your defense pools? For example, if you are the target of 10 threat points, must you deduct all, some or none of those from your pool? The reason I ask is that if a target ...

Re: the Core Mechanic
The core mechanic is based on die-ranks. For any single ability, die type corresponds to “rank,.” The more sides on the die, the higher the rank. Ability ranks normally progress from D4 through D12. This is the “die-rank.” Examples...The Swordsman swings, rolling D4+D8+D4 (+3 threat points due to s...
