Re: Campaign Pitch to my players

I find the idea of over-controlling druid characters interesting. Personally, I'd embrace that concept and make them into full-fledged chatacters with some characteristics that might influence the other sub-characters controlled by the druids. The important stats of the druids might not be strength ...

Re: Campaign Pitch to my players

Thanks Skyscraper! The PC "Druids" are not characters per se, they represent the players and the player knowledge that accumulates. It's really a conceit to explain away metagaming player/ Character knowledge. And provides something a bit different. The game, I hope, will play as normal w...

Re: The Revelation of Mulmo PBP - WARNING SPOILERS

Very well. As Maledict pushes down the stairs, unseen filaments brush against him. Three are capable of hitting AC 20, 21, and 22 respectively. Each of these does 1d3 damage - three "2"s in a row for 6 points. Each also requires a DC 7 Fortitude save. Maledict sees nothing, but he can cer...

Re: Have you seen what WoTC is Doing ?

I don't think they're apologizing. I think they're just trying to please their customers. This seems like a good idea to me. I understand that it might cost ink to print out the stuff, but if you print in black and white (like I do), the price is probably negligible for printing a few pages of stats...

Maledict, impatient, steps over the thief and moves down along the staircase. "Lady Blackrush, we will find the well of all wells, do not worry." He appears to be talking to his sword again.

Maledict follows down as soon as he can.

Sufferus is happy to close the parade with the body of the elf trailing behind him.

(What happened to the body of our dwarven friend by the way? Are we still carrying it? If so, who?)

Re: Campaign Pitch to my players

This is a really nice pitch. Enticing. Well written. Punchy. Love it. I assume you mean for "the sight" to be some way that the new PCs become aware of the previous PCs' knowledge, is that it? You could also have some kind of vision/augury/foresight/dreaming associated to it. Perhaps devel...

Generally, the oil runs out or the torch extinguishes just at the wrong time. You know, when you hear some bone-chilling scraping sounds from just beyond that corner, getting closer and closer...

That's my rule of thumb.

Re: Revelation of Mulmo PbP?

Raven, would it be worthwhile to do a little summary of the room we're in, our general path to get there (briefly), as well as adding in anyone else that wants to play? I think with four players it seems more do-able. Well, some of you mucked around on the ground level some, then found stairs upwar...

Re: Fighter Trumps Dwarf Fighter

Hmmm, I'm kinda digging these suggestions, taking my idea of the "simple dwarf" even farther. How about this version? The thought is that the player of the dwarf rolls less dice, but always knows the bonus to hit. The bonus is meant to track about the average of a Warrior's Deed roll. Dep...

Re: Fighter Trumps Dwarf Fighter

I guess I lowered the Deed Die to keep the Warrior as a superior weapon while the dwarf either hits harder or (...) The problem, as I note above, is that the deed die not only affects the deed, it is also the dwarf's bonus to hit and to damage. So by lowering the deed die, you are going opposite yo...

Re: Rumblings About Ritual Magic...

Ritual magic usually accomplishes great feats, in my game. Building a magical stronghold, an immense bridge that crosses over an entire ocean-front bay, protecting a large area against magic or other types of intrusion or attacks, making permanent magical effects, modifying a landscape to some speci...

Re: Play experiences of wizards...

I haven't played enough volume, but in addition to the noted mercurial effect, I note that each spell is usually equivalent to a few spells because of the increasing power of each spell. Some get new effects altogether as the spell check ramps up. So my first impression is that it would take a while...

While I'm all for the magic is unpredictable stuff above, I'm with you James on the question of Lightning bolt vs magic missile. The game proposes spell levels, and wizards progress in power in part to gain access to such more powerful spell levels. What you've identified IMO is apparently just a fr...

Re: Max Hit Points

The player and I both roll. The pc gets the better roll. I'm going soft. I hadn't heard of this method before, but I like it as a compromise over the "pure roll" approach. Personally I'd make the player roll twice and pick the best result, instead of rolling myself as a judge. Same thing,...

Re: Disapproval Table Extension (WIP)

Oh, as for suggestions, I think I'd consider god-specific ones? Specific to the cleric's god of course. E.g. if you have a sun god, perhaps the cleric gets a major sunburn (can't sleep for 48 hours), or shines bright light for 12 hours; if the cleric has a god of nature, perhaps he sprouts twigs and...

Cool idea. A lot of interesting results in that table. Vow of silence is particularly amusing and perhaps my favorite. As a judge, I'd mention to the player that anything he says that I can even remotely think comes from his character, will be considered breaking the vow of silence. That way, the pl...

I've posted it before, but here's my DCC dwarf... either very defensive or very damaging, but always with extra hps and a lower Deed Die. DWARF Dwarves are doughty fighters, and legendary Carousers. Dwarves can smell gold and see it in the darkest dark when all else are shadow and form. Dwarves are...

Re: Fighter Trumps Dwarf Fighter

I'm thinking of going with... - Add level to Fortitude saves - Re roll hit points twice at each level and take highest total Also I really like your idea of using any attack as a sword and board type of attack - makes it much more flexible I think these are simple and straightforward modifications ...
