Re: Backerkit question
I found out what's up with backerkit. The files I cannot access are early draft files, which were turned off when the final versions got uploaded in my backerkit page. It threw me that the names weren't the same, which gave me the impression that I hadn't been given access to all of my stuff. Just m...

Re: Reader's guide to Lankhmar fiction
Two things to add to my original post: (1) Swords Against the Shadowland by Robin Wayne Bailey. My understanding is that Leiber had written out a story outline but never got around to fleshing it out, and that Bailey started from here and build his novel. I have a copy on my shelf but honestly have ...

Re: New Convert
Funny thing about Lankhmar, I just don't like Fritz Leiber's writing. I've read a couple of the short story collections and just could not get into them. I love REH, & HPL, and enjoy some of the Jack Vance stuff and many others of the genres covered by DCC, but Leiber, no. Interesting that I'm ...

Re: Backerkit question
I'll keep poking around. Some of the files which are not "locked down yet" are things like the boxed set. Well, I have a physical copy of the boxed set right here in my hand, so I would think that the PDF version should be accessible as well. Hmmmm.

Re: Switching my group to DCC
I have found in general that all of the DCC modules are different from one another, and agree with Mat that even if the descriptions sound similar there is a good chance that the adventures are different. Partly because of the design goal that monsters be unique and not "just another orc,"...

Re: New Convert
Welcome aboard, and I'm glad that you found the DCC RPG. I agree that the mechanics are easy, which surprises a lot of folks who are intimidated by the size of the core book. (Most of which are spell pages anyway.) If you are interested in monsters for the game, you might look at the DCC modules (st...

Backerkit question
So I found that a couple of the files that I downloaded for the DCC Lankhmar kickstart wouldn't open, and I went back to the backer kit page where all of the files are located and re-downloaded everything. Then I noticed that several files are listed as "pending" with the note that "y...

Re: More guidance for prices?
My take on this is that there are quite a few sources of generic prices for D&D style games, such as the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide. If I need a price guide I can use one of those. My Lankhmar games are such that I tend to award a bunch of treasure with the understanding that when we pick u...

Issue #2 out of print :-(
Any idea if/when issue #2 will resurface in the Goodman online store? I want to buy the whole set but my OCD kicks in with having an issue missing on my shelf.

Re: core book (images of women) really bad for me. Don't want players to lose their characters. Ideas?
I wish it were as not-okay to use women for eye candy as it is not-okay to racially stereotype. I wish that all the images of females in the DCC books were images of females that men would be willing to role-play around their daughters. Or mothers. I had this exact problem with the d20 Conan rules ...

Re: That dice chain
Further thoughts on the dice chain: (1) I own several sets of DCC dice, but find that simulating the dice chain with traditional polyhedral dice isn’t a real chore. When I did playtesting back in the day those dice weren’t for sale yet and the game ran just fine by using regular dice to simulate the...

New Fafhrd & Grey Mouser fiction!
An interesting news note from Goodman Games! Re: The Least You Need to Know? or: quick-start for judges
I would suggest that you try a few of the DCC modules first, and then create your own campaign after. (1) Modules are written for you, so easier to plug-n-play. (2) Campaigns, while fun, require a lot more prep by the GM. And a much better feel for how the rules work. And what you need to do in orde...

There is also a Lyonesse RPG launching in the near future. I think it uses a d100 system. Might be easy to take their stuff, convert d100 into d20, then use DCC mechanics on top of it.

World of Tiers
I'm reading Philip Jose Farmer's World of Tiers series for the first time. It's one of the Appendix N books that I've often wondered about but somehow never managed to track down until now, and I'm enjoying it so far. (I'm about halfway through book #2, Gates of Creation.) Anyway, I was thinking tha...

Re: Dying Earth
Any guess as to what will make the setting different from other DCC product lines? When I think of Dying Earth, I think of (1) Colorful word use; needing a thesaurus to figure out what Vance is saying (2) Characters wandering through magical situations, similar in vibe to Dumas' "Three Musketee...

Awesome artwork.
(1) it would be cool to see those side-by-side with the two actual products.
(2) it's a shame to have that big "photobucket" logo plastered all over the thing.

Re: How to handle player losing all their characters
Another thought about character death -- when I am playing at the table with newbie players I try to have a conversation with the DM first and tell him or her that if a character "needs" to die please make mine the first. I would model acceptable behavior (no tantrums, getting angry, etc.)...

Remembering WFF
I was rummaging through some old boxes and happened to find my stack of WFF modules, so I had to sit down and reread some of that stuff. It's too bad that WFF wasn't promoted more as a "new" RPG system, because I think that those were some of the best d20 modules that I can recall from tha...

Re: How to handle player losing all their characters
Suggestions stated above are all excellent. I think that the key to a funnel is that you aren't supposed to be invested in any of your "zeroes" and if you run out a GM can look for any way to bring the player back into the action. Locals from the city, random folk wandering the dungeon or ...

Thanks for the info. My plan is to continue to encourage him to write lots of stuff, and I'll keep an eye out to see if open submissions become a thing at some point.
