Re: Encounter Levels and Random Encounters
Conan had to run a few times too, thanks to "unbalanced encounters". Did it make him less badass? No.

Great news, thank you very much for listening to us!Based on the thread here, I'll focus on getting the full 10 levels into the core book.

Re: What is a "level"?
There's a system like this in Dungeons & Dragons Online. Every level has five ranks, on the first four you get Action Points, that can be spent on Enhancements (in DDO, these are minor bonuses or the more expensive are prestigue "classes"), and on the fifth, you level up. Works pretty ...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels
I'm now leaning toward keeping the core rulebook focused on levels 1-5, and saving levels 6-10 for one of the annuals. Please don't. Let us have "complete" rules for the core classes. I don't know how often you plan to release annuals, but it can be annoying if you have a party that can p...

Re: In the rules?? "What is a RPG?"
DCC RPG is aimed at experienced gamers, with no specific attempt to broaden the RPG audience. I certainly have no objections to new players joining, but my belief is that most of the new gamers exposed to DCC RPG will be children who are taught the game by their thirtysomething parents who buy DCC ...

Re: Cosmology & Setting
IMO, one of the most "Appendix N"-feel published setting is Judges Guild's Wilderlands. It is sparsely-detailed and was released piece-by-piece over a span of years. Since february I've bought some old Judges Guild stuff for my S&W campaign (Wilderlands of High Fantasy, Modron, Ready ...

Re: Have your attitudes towards DCC RPG changed since Jan. 3
I have no problem with skills, if they are done right. If skills only cover things like professions, it's fine. Knowledge skills are still okay for me. Once social skills come into the game, the whole gameplay begins to fall apart, especially if a game promotes the overuse of skill systems - like 4e...

Re: Cosmology & Setting
Instead of setting info, I'd like to see some charts a DM can use to create a town, a random NPC and of course random encounter tables . Um, that is setting info. Saying gryphons are randomly encountered in mountains means your setting's mountains have gryphons. Encounter tables should be customize...

Re: Cosmology & Setting
Personally, I'd rather see a setting book (seperate volume entirely) released ASAP after the core rulebook is released. No point in eating up pages with a setting that I might or might not actually use, but I'd like to have a "go to" setting if I'm too lazy to create something. (And a pla...

Re: Clerics and the DCC
So, this means we've got the cleric Design Diary? :P Does your alignment/god define, which spells a cleric gets? Is there a pantheon in DCC RPG? I hope the answer is no for the latter, unless you're using some general gods (The Holy Lord, The Lord of Chaos, God of Storms, etc...) or mythological one...

You can find it in 1st edition AD&D's Dungeon Master's Guide, on page 224.

Re: Resurrection ?
One high level and expensive Resurrection spell won't hurt. You can leave it out if you don't like, but it could be really annoying when you loose a high level character, and need to reroll. Heck, the Holy Bible is quite "low fantasy" and even that has a few resurrections. :D Just like alm...

Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
I find all these comments about permission to photocopy distressing. I'd rather copy/paste the actual text/chart from a PDF or a DCC Reference Document. Streamlined or not, I just about always would print a character sheet containing my spells fully lifted from the rule book just to avoid wear and ...

Re: Have your attitudes towards DCC RPG changed since Jan. 3
When I first heard about DCC RPG, I thought it will be "just another D&D clone". Now I see it as a unique game, one of the ways where D&D could have been taken - just like HackMaster. It's full of brilliant ideas and solutions. Can't wait to see the final product.

Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
I was just thinking about the magic missile table. It's a bit oppressive. If every spell looks like that, it's gonna take up a lot of space and seem overwhelming. I'd prefer one table for all spells, kinda like the wild magic table from 2e. Put the table on the gm screen and call it a day. Since al...

Re: Appendix O?
Including movies and comics in the Appendix N is welcome, especially with commentary. Appendix O - only if you can't fill that one or two page with better stuff, ie.: a few more spells or monsters. What I would add to such appendix: Gene Wolfe - The Book of the New Sun : one of my favourites, way to...
