Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?
Love it. I've already smooshed one of them with a simple trap. Suddenly that normal-sized Thief is all-important! And thats a very good point in return: if the party has a Thief that wants to do scouty stuff they need to be able to shine and not sidelined (however unintentionally) by the Wizard/War...

Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?
Wizards at my table spam Enlarge on 2-3 of the party's melee types every fight now. Debating on setting them against a rival caster with the same spell, mage hunters of some kind, or just a gargantuan creature... or all 3! Mwahahaha...:twisted::mrgreen: LOL! How about low tech it friend a...

Re: Rogues and Martialists
Yes, martial artist and liked finding the term as a cool hip thing. It works for me. I have been inventing moves, with no Martialists experience at all, and allowing the player to get new moves as he advances in level. One move is a sweeping kick designed to knock people off their feet. He can knoc...

Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?
Hmmm yes well Wizards are indeed MUCH more powerful than "normal" but fragile. I like to emphasise this when I can. So far I have the two Mages in my current party worried that if they over expose their power some nameless foe will target them in their sleep.. LOL Power of suggestion is a ...

Re: Rogues and Martialists
"Martialist" was not a class I ever came across in that era. Maybe it was some other third-party publisher's invention...? I sense Google translate, or similar, is involved here old chap I assumed the OP means "Martial Artists" from the the context. But I May be wrong ;) Some ki...

Patron - Ganelea, the darkness of Mother earth
Needed a patron for a custom Wizard in my current campaign and after reviewing the ones on the open list here got inspired by Paul Wolfe's Ganelith. So here's a dump of available stuff in case it helps anybody else :) Probably going to review adjust the stuff on the fly as the campaign goes on. Base...

Re: Rogues and Martialists
Hiya "Rogue" is a kinda generic term, for a character with a slightly dishonest cast to them. In terms of classes in Original D&D the terms "Thief" and "Assassin" were first used, but were dropped in favour of the generic "Rogue" in later editions as it wa...

Re: New Player - Action Dice
Hiya Well since Beta its seems to have been 1 move action (with a few things that can be combined with that) 1 standard action using a d20. Then if you have multiple action dice then you can use these for your class specific area. So spell casters cast spells on action dice 2+ Warriors get an extra ...

Re: Need Useful Tips For Playing DCC
First up. GOOD LUCK !! As I have now had a couple of sessions (basically finishing a funnel adventure I wrote: 11 Deaths from starting field of 24 0 Levels BTW) The evil simplicity of DCC is coming back to me after a break of several years. Such as they are My tips: * Read the "Admonitions"...

[Cough and splutter as of the reflected sound of underground goblins] Well hello there. Surfacing from my pit I return at least for a while. About to start a New DCC campaign in Norwich England @ Athena Games, thought I had best dust off my old (Pre Beta) forum account. I trust I find you all well a...

Re: Problems and Suggestions after Weeks of Play (Long)
First of all, I am 100% against GP=XP. :) Just getting that out there. Characters should get XP for their actions, not for what they find. Absolutly! I have always played that characters can get some XP from spending their loot, but never for just finding it (OK with one exception but this may not ...

Re: Cleric Sacrifice???
A sacrifice should be a ceremony that requires an altar dedicated to your deity. It should require expended accoutrements that are not included in the "value" of the sacrifice (incense, candles, virgins, etc) that are in keeping with the deity's portfolio. And finally it should require TI...

Re: Thoughts on a spell conversion.
I quite like it. I think the damage at upper levels is a wee bit too much for my personal tastes, instead I would favor adding additional Sand appropriate effects such as blinding rather than pile on the d6's. But looks good so far!

Re: Cleric Sacrifice???
I don't totally disagree with everyone here as sacrifice mechanic needs to be in the class. .... means that the Cleric will not play the same in low treasure vs. high treasure campaigns. The cleric as written should mechanically play the same no matter what type of campaign you are running (money w...

Re: Stat Increases As Levels Increase
I was always in favor of the following spell burn alternatives: 1. You can only spell burn up to your class level in points. Puts a good cap on it. or 2. You can only spell burn up to your class level / 3 in slots. What is a slot, it is a result category on the spell charts. (i.e. 12-14, 15-18, 19-...

Re: Stat Increases As Levels Increase
After having a player or two use my incautious agreement for some between downtime to Spellburn themselves nearly to a pile of Ash to cast a find familar spell recently. I think I am going to include the following two (House) rules:- 1) When you spell burn you instead of burning 1 point at a time yo...

Re: Class Conversions for DCC
To me this is way, way more powerful than the warrior. The MDoA stuff is the warrior's schtick. If you are thinking about making a class with MDoA ability, do not. Just use the warrior and call yourself a "tribesman". Your tribesman also has rage. That should be his main schtick. You have...

Re: Cleric Sacrifice???
yeah I'd like to see this defined a bit better too. So far NONE of my groups three clerics have ever tried it in over two months of weekly play... Do ya just chuck a bag of gold down a storm drain or something? It doesn't seem too "Reverant" if so to me.. I think a better mechanic would be...

Re: Portal Under the Stars (Free RPG Day - Austin, Texas)
Great Play test summary! :D The idea of some characters having meager magic, maybe represented as 0-level spells, has to be one of the better suggestions I've seen. If Goodman doesn't do this, then someone needs to hop on this. +d5 I like it! I feel that any character that can justify it at 0 level ...

Re: Character Improvement Options
Because I don't see many Appendix N heroes dropping like flies once they've gotten their legs under them. And I certainly wouldn't tell King Conan that he's 30% weaker and dumber than he was at Tower of the Elephant. And most heroic arcs in Appendix N don't involve characters getting less and less ...

Checks everyone in the party will need to make (like crossing a narrow ledge, or climbing a wall using rope) DC 4-8 Checks a few key members of the party want to make where failure of any is a problem: DC 9-14 Checks where one character needs to make it to "be a hero" such as unlocking a ...
