it's a tough call... as a 6th level sorcerer, getting to cast one of these great spells 4x per day is pretty tough to compare to evasion: Displacement: Attacks miss subject 50%. Fireball: 1d6 damage per level, 20-ft. radius. Gaseous Form: Subject becomes insubstantial and can fly slowly. Haste: One ...

By casting the "Silence" spell centered on the dire bats, they can no longer use their sonar to guide them, and they effectively become blind. At that point I have the bats make a will save or crash to the ground, rider in tow. If they succeed with their will save, they are disciplined en...

I think a lot of people unaccustomed to XCrawl would casually dismiss the monk - but with the very physical nature of many XCrawl events (think obstacle courses, battle of the network stars, puzzles or encounters requiring maneuverability, timing or precision) skills-heavy characters are even more v...

What PCs would you like to see?

Let's just say, hypothetically, if you were to have a pool of 6 pre-generated seventh-level PCs to customize a team of 4 XCrawlers from, what sort of characters do you think would make the decision most agonizing? I'm currently leaning toward the following classifications/roles, fulfilled by the fol...

I'll be there bright and early on Wednesday, and I'll try to wander by after I help set up the Goodman Games booth. After that, I'm always up for something relaxing - like killing PCs or being killed by a malevolent GM.

I think Sellout is one of the best supplements for any RPGs in any system - it adds so many more options, so much more depth and would easily be dubbed a "core book" if published by WotC... The XCrawl main rulebook paints the overall picture for the setting and the genre, and Sellout is th...

XCrawl is definitely worth checking out... The main rulebook wraps up a lot of the flavor, and has a great adventure in the back, and the Sellout! supplement is one of the better game supplements for any RPG out there... if this were a WotC product, then Sellout! would definitely be considered one o...

I can't wait to read all about how folks are going to die this year! :)

XCrawl "Looting" Rules?

As I skim through the books and start to prep for an adventure I'm writing, I am curious what the standard XCrawl position is on looting... I can't seem to find anything in the books, but something is tugging at the back of my mind. I'm working under the assumption (and mindset) that XCrawl particip...

Glad to hear you've all enjoyed Interludes. It was a challenge (a lot of fun, but still a challenge) to develop as wide a variety of adventures as I could that still had a common thread running through them. I've DM'd a half dozen different groups through the Eye of the Night episode (scenario 1) an...

DCC #30 - Vault of the Dragon Kings is based around the history of Dragonkind, and their former masters, the Dragon Kings - tasked by the creator gods to watch over and protect the Dragons as the world developed. It was the 2005 GenCon Tournament module, and is very, very challenging. While the tour...

ARCHON ... DCC #29 - Adventure Begins - A Question of Morels

Archon, a local gaming convention here in St. Louis, went very well. I ran two sessions of A Question of Morels from DCC #29 The Adventure Begins . There are a few minor spoilers mixed in here, but nothing too plot destroying. It's mostly the interesting anecdotes. Session 1: The first group worked ...

Kudos for XCrawl / Starting My Own Campaign.

Just dropping a line to mention that I was thrilled to pick up all the XCrawl books at GenCon. At first I wasn't sure what to make of the game, but after reading the core rulebook, my mind was a twitter with the possibilities. As with most RPG games, I've tweaked and modified things slightly to fit ...

Part of the tournament format is taking that character that, on the surface, looks like a dud....but then finding the strategy that maximizes them fully. Indeed.
