Re: Active Defense
I've always been interested in Warhammer's rules with armor saves. Thinking about having a Dodge roll as a save against a hit, then armor can reduce damage or save your life, although it might interfere with dodging.

Re: Best music for gaming
Funny all the metal being suggested. Agree w/ The Sword. Sleep would be a great one too, also High on Fire.

Re: Best music for gaming
I'm actually planning on running a campaign based on Morbid Angel's albums A through G (or maybe H).
Times of Grace is their best, I actually synced up Tribes of Neurot "Grace" with that record. It's pretty cool.

Re: Killing the Cleric (and a few others)
Warrior/Rogue/Mage is identical to UItima5, btw. It had "class" definitions/titles but basically boiled down to which of the three stats (Str/Dex/Int) was highest. I kind of like the idea of removing clerics, and forcing magic-users into the healing role as necessary/appropriate. Some migh...

Re: Character Sheets
It's got some textual issues, at least when I just downloaded it and looked at it, bunch of stuff was overwritten and unreadable.
I'm using a Mac, dunno if that's the problem (shouldn't be, PDFs ought to be universal).

Re: Encumbrance Houserules Meanderings
Could somebody post up a detailed run-down of LotFP's encumbrance system? I'm looking at some old notes on rules for armor and encumbrance and thinking deep thoughts.

Re: outside the box
[Edit: 19MB file, so it make take a bit to load...] [Edit 2: forgot to add, this is a Huge map, so you could generate a smaller one if you wanted.] Very cool. I must find this game. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Word of warning: very steep learning curve, and it's kinda like looking at the Mat...

I'm 35, also a lawyer, and I've played everything except 4e (watched it once, not my bag, baby). Prefer OD&D atmosphere, but intrigued by rules-light systems like FUDGE and Fate, Rules Cyclopedia, etc. Big fan of survival horror stuff like The Stand and The Walking Dead, Lovecraft, etc. Not a bi...

Somebody let him know that he misspelled his domain name in the profile part of that Kickstarter page... it's missing the L in "halfLing."

Re: outside the box
Thought about DF some more, and decided to share what a procedurally generated map looks like, for those who aren't familiar with the game. It's pretty badass, goes through a long simulation of uplift and erosion to place mountains, rivers, oceans, deserts, glaciers, etc. You can also tweak all of t...

Re: Fluffy Gods!
Watership Down.... Appendix N or not Appendix N , that is the question. His other book -- Shardik -- is firmly in the Appendix N school. Very dark, with a demonic bear worshipped as a god, etc. +1. Also, that book was a great morality tale, you had some good fall from grace and then long journey to...

Re: outside the box
Good places for ideas. Dwarf Fortress is pretty much the ultimate in procedural sandbox. It's also a good way to learn about how stuff gets made, why certain metals are better than others, etc. It's a cool low (really, no) magic fantasy setting. You could even use a screenprinted large map as a camp...

Couple thoughts from computer games:
Ultima (especially 5; 4/6 to a lesser extent)
DWARF FORTRESS
NetHack

Re: DCC and AD&D
When I get to University in September (anyone in the Boston area, let me know!), I am looking to run the T-A-GDQ path of supermodules. The only difference is that I will be using the HackMaster 4th Edition versions, and will be running it in the world of the Knights of the Dinner Table. I will prob...

Re: Pitching DCC to potential players.
Let me know if you need any help making a flyer. I am currently making a Judge's Screen for my own use, using the Snapshot tool in Adobe to clip artwork for the player's side of the screen. The problem with DCC isn't that there is a lack of evocative artwork, making it hard to find some to use, but...

Re: Modules For the actual DCC RPG
has anybody converted "old" adventures (from D&D BECMI / AD&D1 or what else ; from Dungeon pages...) ? If so, I'd be very interested to know which ones, and have a "share" if I actually own the adventure ! I am, slowly but surely, working on adaptation of a list of modul...
