Re: Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
Instead of Lucky weapon, i would encourage a "favourite" weapon. A warrior is not good with swords because he's lucky, he's good because he trained with them his whole life, favouring them over other weapons. A favourite weapon could get a +1 (or a bigger dice) for MDoA. This works well t...

Re: Warriors: "Lucky Weapon"
I dislike the steady powercreep of stackable +1 modifiers and prefer that a warrior's lucky weapon just ignores all negative Luck modifiers. Using this method the lucky weapon is a greater boon to Low-luck characters or those whose Luck fluctuates to low levels due to burning it. Charcters who alwa...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
This is where I have issue with Appendix N, in place of just Sword & Sorcery, when we justify Elves and Dwarves because of Tolkien, we can't just dismiss mundane magic items like the Cloaks of Elvenkind, Brooches of Defence, Sting and that light-thing. Believe you-me, I want magic items to be d...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
You do realize Joseph has posted that he rewards the PCs 1-2 luck after an adventure correct? So it can go up. I'm not a fan of trading XP for luck. Actually no I didn't know this. its mentioned in the Beta that Luck can go up but I couldn't find ANY specifics, if you could provide a link to one of...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
I like this idea--EXP can be spent on things other than just leveling up, a bit like how GP in the old Warhammer Quest boardgame needed to be spent to gain a new level, but also was spent on equipment. I don't know how thematic trading XP for Luck is, but it seems like a reasonable mechanic, since ...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
Does this sound workable and fun? Should there be modifiers applied or perhaps alternate die types based on a character's luck score? Am I insane for even considering this? Do you like bacon? The above sums up my own feelings in suggesting this as an option... How about at the end of the adventure ...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
Ok having read thru this thread I think we're generally agreed that the "Golf bag of weapons" that somehow got into my early days of D&D is not gonna happen here. That's good, but what I am not seeing yet is this scenario: In many fantasy adventures the hero STARTS with a magic item an...

Re: Cleric questions
The point is - clerics have to actively do something - not just hang around rubbing their relic. +1 for best Cleric quote I seen a while! Point conceeded, there ARE other ways you can offset your negative penalty but it does say :- Sacrifices vary according to the nature of the deity but, in genera...

Re: Cleric questions
Hmm this provoked some random thoughts:- The only way right now to offset the definite disadvantage Clerics have seems to be to have a bag of diamonds with him that he throws one in the storm drain every so often to get some approval for his piety! Which if he serves an god of greed/trade/prosperity...

Re: Homebrew Spells and Conversions
I like what you've got here, but to me the entry for 24-27 seems out of place considering that the entry for 20-23 says that you can hold your hands out to feel the warmth of the fire... wouldn't that also qualify as a test? Maybe just some more text to clarify your intent would help. I think I see...

Re: Ritual Spells
Totally agree here. The two spells mentioned are but the tip of an iceberg if you go and look at Appendix N. Now Wizards in DCC seem pretty powerful already but if only for NPC arch villain wizards we need to know a bit about Ritual magic I feel. I suggest that Wizards can know ONE ritual spell per ...

Re: Elvish sleep resistance
Agree with Clay here. In the Elric series (Yaay! got the App N reference in early!) the Melnibonans (Dammit can't think how to spell that!) His love interest gets sent into enchanted sleep all the time (sic) and if Elric is a proto elf so is his beloved Cymoril. Why basically have any specific resis...

Re: The Implied Setting of the DCC RPG
The Style I got most from the Beta rule set reminded me of the Elric stories and other Moorcock settings personally. But that's kinda the point isn't it? Anyone with a decent background in the appendix N reading list ought to have had their favorite sub set from that list spring to mind from the fla...

Re: Level Cap
After all... If the DM is doing their job, then the odds of even getting to 5th lvl are slim :P LOL While a part of me agrees to this I did find it humorous to see it right under Fin's signature from the previous post! OK Joking aside, gotta agree with the general consensus. My best days of D&D...

Re: Which iconic D&D spells shouldn't be included ?
Polymorph spells are a staple of Heroic fantasy and should I feel be included someplace in DCC. In fantasy literature we have the "Shape shift" of many characters as well as the classic turn to toad etc spell of the fair tails. So two spells seem to be required for this purpose like AD&...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
Hi all forgive any noobishness on a first post. But.,, Totally agree with general sentiment. Ditch the % system use a DC d20 check for everything or use % for everything having two systems does not pay homage to anything it just complicates what needs to be a simple and easily grasped system. Sorry ...
