Both could be used. Depends on how the player describes his actions, and what he says exactly. One can convince with cleverness OR with charisma! (Example: look at any politician's speech...)beermotor wrote:Um, why would you use Int bonus instead of PERSONALITY for a simple persuasion check?

What would be nice would be an evocative title that clearly denotes "the" difference between a "Patron" and a "God/Demon".
I don't like the two being somewhat mixed-up in the actual rules... (Bobugbubilz..)

Re: Grifting - request for comments
I mostly agree with NobleDrake. That said, there are certain situations where some kind of "fast talk" or "persuade" roll is appropriate. If the party is trying to fool some NPCs about their identity for example, or enter a castle they have no business in. In those cases I sugges...

Brainstorm: Propose or suggest the classes you want to see in an issue of Crawl! dedicated to new classes. Discuss & debate (keep it friendly) the proposals & suggestions. The next phase will be selection of the favorite 5, then a the community can submit the write-ups for each class, and t...

Where is the DCC Crowd heading to in 2013... (Con-wise)
Hey, It's too late to book anything in 2012 but... I want to go to a RPG con in 2013! My last times was DragonCon in 2002. Highlight: the wonderful Dave Arneson intimate panel: - Then Gary came up with the idea of publishing adventure modules. "Modules ?", I said, "NOBODY is ever gonn...

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Brainstorm (and class propos
I can definately see a Gnome illusionist having its own type of magic system from minor tricks of light and sound to full blown "There is a Dragon coming right for us run, eeek, its breathing fire! I'm on fire!" A simple system would be having something like a deed die. You describe what ...

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Brainstorm (and class propos
Definitively in for me: - Straight Orc - Bard (jack-of-all-trade that would not just pilfer abilities from other classes...) - Gnome (as the Illusionist with different magic, less-deadly illusions less dangerous to practice +magic resistance.) Maybe also: - Monk (I kinda like the "eventually&qu...

You can pretty much do a monk with MDoA, too. Except it would lack the ridiculously overpowered movement, AC, open hand damage, innate spell like abilities, and multiple attacks from AD&D onward. What about "quivering palm"!!?? "Gained at 13th level(Master of Winter):Perha...

That's great! It would be really fantastic if you could stat the parties minimally (class/level, special items, etc.).jduncan wrote:

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge! Intro (& suggestions thread.
I was toying with a gnome class. Making more than just a "magical halfling". I would have the gnome be more able to cast illusion type spells or just have give the gnome access to only illusion spells. Not only that, and give him the dwarf ability to sniff out gems (just gems). Not sure w...

I guess I should answer my poll too:
Picked up the D&D red box in 1982 and never stopped DMing still!
It helped a lot when I learned English along the way, I still remember when I understood that a "shield" was an actual piece of equipment, not just a "magic spell"!!

Just how old are you by the way ?... Nahhhhh that's not the right question.
So here is the REAL question:
When did you first play in a bona fide role-playing game ?

Stage Three: Class creation challenge. Once the 5 classes are picked, it'll be on the community to create these classes. Individual threads will be made where people can post their version of the class. My only worry is that all different class versions will cross-pollinate each others and we might...
