Re: From level 0 to level 1: more than one PC per player?

I agree with the two chaps above in that it can encourage roleplaying. I can think of no problems with players playing multiple 0 level characters. Players seem to gleefully use them like experimental lab rats. The one PC with the best stats they wish to retain is generally quite well safeguarded bu...

Re: From level 0 to level 1: more than one PC per player?

Had no problem with a player who has more than one character surviving to 1st level playing more than one PC. Due to the high rate of attrition it has been a maximum of two characters so far but playing a pair has been an interesting experience. Given the subterranean fantasy Vietnam of DCC, it has ...

ELO brings back a lot of old skool magic for me. When I play 'New World Record', old skool D&D nostalgia bubbles up, evoking a lot of memories of past exploits and plans.

Re: Besides Appendix N proper, what inspires your home-setti

Almost forgot three of my most loved films, that are always useful to watch for an inspiration injection. Mr Vampire - Hopping oriental vampires. Unusual and funny film. Horror Express - you truly cannot go wrong with a film that stars Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and has Telly Savalas as a cossac...

Re: Besides Appendix N proper, what inspires your home-setti

Blood on Satan's Claw From Beyond The Grave Tales From The Crypt Asylum I like those old 1970's British portmanteau horrors like the last three you mentioned. Dr Terror's House of Horrors and Torture Garden are worth a look at too. The House that Dripped Blood is one of the best. +1 for Blood on Sa...

Re: Besides Appendix N proper, what inspires your home-setti

For myself, the weird stories of Clark Ashton Smith (as mentioned in the inspirational section of DCC), British horror films, English ghost story writers like M.R James and Algernon Blackwood, the dark and bloody Kane books by Karl Edward Wagner (a sadly forgetten writer) and lashings of random tabl...

Re: Emrikol Was Framed

I didn't know that Emirikol had been statted out previously when I wrote the adventure, having gone in different directions when that adventure was released. I got to approach Emirikol with no preconceived notions other than the Tramp illo. That gave me a great deal of freedom, and, for the record,...

Re: Emrikol Was Framed

I have a group of players straining at the leash to have a go at 'Emirikol was Framed' and to join battle with the eponymous wizard himself! All of them are familiar with the great illustration in the 1st ed DMG. I have a recollection of Emirikol appearing in a module sometime. 1st or 2nd ed AD&...

Re: How the dice tell the story

I love the fact that what we essentially have in DCC is a super-lite rule system with a variety of tweaks and tables that make for some great narrative unpredictability, and some truly memorable moments. +1 for this. I think you have described DCC's appeal to me, all in that sentence very well. I l...

Re: Books that should be in Appendix N

A big +1 for 'Nifft the Lean'. A wildly imaginative book. Shea's 'A Quest for Simblis' is worth checking out too. The book's description of feuding and incompetent magic users reminds me of spell mishaps in DCC. I would like to add comics. Sure, they were obviously inspired by REH's original literat...

Love the map! I agree with you in that it is just right for a starting point.
I also love the little (giant!) lobster at the bottom of the map! :)

Re: Appendix N type movies.

If 'Seven Samurai' is being flung in here, I will suggest the manga film 'Ninja Scroll' as well. The wandering swordsman, sex, extreme violence with lashings of blood, demonic adversaries with eerie powers.... It has a great pulpy feel. One of the best manga films I have seen. Also 'Mr Vampire'. A h...

Nice epilogue and after thoughts, which one does not see in many actual play reports.
I hope you put up some more examples in the future.

Nice. Gives me an adventure idea of crazed subterranean cultists attacking a company of enterprising miners intruding upon their domain.

Re: How about some alternate classes

Enter militant orders! Joining one is not an easy task, and while you get bonuses, they have their own restrictions too. It's easier to write one order up, doesn't results in such unnecessary complexity like adding a new class, the Warrior class remains "The Warrior", characters can enter...

Re: Stomp the typo / Errata & FAQ

I think there is an error. Someone please correct me if I have got it wrong or repeated someone else. Someone else made this observation on a thread on rpg.net before. p. 86 Crit table V is for level 5+ Warriors but on table 1-14 on p.54 the level table for dwarves (dwarfs?!?), shows that levels 6 t...

Thanks for all the suggestions! Have already got TOAD, Ultimate Toolbox and Points of Light. They are great resources. Already have my eye on the RECG, Vornheim, Red Tide and ACK. I will definitely look towards buying them. Thanks Aplus for suggesting Micellaneuum of Cinder and Colin for the suggest...

Resources, modules & books for use with DCC?

Recently purchased and am very much enjoying DCC with the modules, Sailors on the Starless Sea and Doom of the Savage Kings. People of the Pit is on its way. I have got The Extraordinary Book of Names which is recommended in the DCC rulebook plus the other Gygaxian books, the Rules Compendium and as...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!

Hi everyone! It is great to be playing DCC. It is a real blast from the past! I started with a copy of OD&D Greyhawk book and Holmes Basic and started playing and collecting AD&D books and the BECMI rule-set. I mostly have experience in playing these last two and still retain an awful lot of...

Great play report. I would love to see the rest!
Good actual play write-ups are surprisingly hard to find. I am glad I came across this one.
