Re: First session funnel

One of my players has a warrior with only a modest strength. He has good luck, though, so that contributes with his chosen weapon. He's clever with the deeds so he does just fine..

Re: Turn Unholy, Lay on Hands and Disapproval table query. .

Yes, spells, turn unholy, and lay on hands all contribute to the disapproval range on a failure. All three actions also trigger disapproval any time a spell check falls within the disapproval range. Any failure on a spell check adds to the disapproval range, but only a natural roll on the die within...

Re: Deed Dice Bonus - does d10+2 always succeed?

I'd rule it differently. It'd say that you get the static bonus to hit and damage, but the deed still goes off only on a "natural" 3+. It seems to me that the intent of the static bonus is to prevent high level warriors from getting potentially Worse attack rolls than oth classes of simila...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95

There was more to attacks of opportunity than hitting a guy dancing in combat. Besides, that's the way I will run it, not the way it may or may not have been written in the rules. If there is something about 3E or 4E I like, I don't think Mr. Goodman is gonna visit my gaming table and point his fin...

Re: DCC on Google+

It was a lot of fun once we worked out all the technical issues. The first death was mine, by friendly fire, no less. No more bows into Melee! That's ironic, my halfling killed two of his comrades too using his sling  That's exactly what happened in my very first playtest. The halfling sli...

I'd make sure the companion has at least one less hit die than the "master" PC. Other than that, I like it. The elf in my group tamed a wolf last night, so I'll be putting it to use.

Re: Our Session

It was so refreshing to go back to old school combat again. There was a scene in the corridor, when one of my characters attacked the goblin leader. Without once looking at my sheet for skills/feats, I narrated how my farmer (corn that is), leaped over one of his falling comrades, and clutching his...

Re: The Next Point of Business

Ipad app. I love rolling dice. I love flavor text and variability. I can't stand page flipping. I use my ipad for tracking initiative anyway. So I'm writing an app that wrangles the tables a little. I'm writing this app for my own game but maybe Mr. Goodman would be interested in licensing a DCC Ju...

Re: Weapons of Quality, Talismans and Charms

Although I don't hand out magic items like candy, I consider magic weapons of +1 or +2 not to be magical but made keener (is that even a word?) by magical means. Take the scene in the movie Dragonslayer for example, when he takes a really good spear made by a blacksmith and makes it better by using...

Page 36 Read languages : Interpreting simple meaning requires a DC 15 check . Interpreting anything more detailed is DC 20. Is it really DC 15, or should it be DC 5? Bump. You're trying to glean meaning from a language you don't actually know. DC 15 is appropriate. For instance, I speak French. I c...

Re: How about some alternate classes

On the one hand, gnomes and bards are fan favorites. On the other, they are the most hated classic race and class respectively. I'm in the pro camp for both, myself. Usually, I can find a way for one of the DCC core classes to do what you want. I've got a home brewed gnome class, but it's a little o...

Re: Thief Action Dice Question

Yes. Along as each only takes an action, he can use both action dice for thief skills. All three of your examples are completely valid. Warriors can attack twice, wizards can cast twice, thieves can do sneaky stuff twice. I see no problem with that. Remember that a DCC character level is about equiv...

First, the example is Awesome . Not bad, but a lot of people don't like games with a separate declaration phase. I like the idea of being able to interrupt an action, though. We could roll initiative as normal, but interrupt by making a roll as galadrin suggests. The action die is reduced by one ste...

Re: Gary Gygax wrote my gaming manifesto back in 1975.

It no longer becomes a battle against the unknown, but a challenge to defeat the known So true. Back when I was running 3.5 players complained that I used a lot of monsters from MMII, and considered it cheating when I came up with an original creature. DCC RPG embraces the home brew philosophy, and...

The spell volume bothered me at first, too. The beta didn't have elves getting a fourth spell until third level, and going up for there. That might work for you if the power advantage is your concern.
