Re: Wizards taking over
@Tortog I dig the idea of adding an "ultimate" level for spells. (btw, I did play in your playtest one session at Guardian, but have since moved out of town. I actually visited PDX this week and stopped by Guardian, hoping against hope to pick up the FRPG mod since I was driving saturday. ...

Re: Wizards taking over
Hey its great to get a response from Joseph, thanks. And, I should say, great job on DCC. I do agree with yall that the rules are really well written. I started doing some extensive houseruling during the beta phase, but have been scaling them back as i get to know the game better. For example, i fl...

Re: Wizards taking over
Thank you all for the feedback. I should have said that the exploding crits have been a GREAT part of the game so far. The game changing nature of that has totally taken our adventures in new directions that have been really memorable. It makes magic feel really out of control. So we love it. There'...

Wizards taking over
And other spellcasters too. In my DCCRPG experience so far, spellcasters and particularly wizards have been the stars of the show. Part of that is that they have been played by the most consistent players, but mostly it is because a high roll on a spell check can be a complete game changer. (this is...

Re: Another Barbarian (Please Review)
I thought I posted this last night, but it was late, and I had been carousing so I may not have pressed the button. Anyways, I agree with some of the above criticisms, and here's my idea to be criticized. The progression is slow because I flattened all the BAB progressions... the idea is for him to ...

Re: Stringing adventures brainstorm ~jferngler stay out~
There is a Dryad to be rescued (and maybe betrayed) in DCC#10 The Sunless Garden. I've been stringing them together as well and that was a nice find.

Again into the breach! Last night the group chose to investigate the Village of Hirot, which, since being rescued from the depredations of an infernal Hound, has since been abandoned, with only strange trees left behind... and so they entered the dungeon of the Sunless Garden, DCC#10. I've had this ...

...or mercurial magic could happen on a failure, but not on a successful casting. "Doh, the toads again. Need to get that pronunciation right."
I've had the same issue. Specifically, for a Cantrip spell, an elf must deliver a soul to his patron. Whoa.

Re: Dwarf's Sword & Board
I'm not a fan of the Dwarf as two weapon fighter. My first experience was with DMing a guy who was new to rpgs and naturally played a dwarf, but the 2nd attack roll was fiddly and hard to get right. Also, I don't dig the style of it. I like the sword and board dwarf to be more defensive and simple. ...

Wild Magic makes DCC games wonderous unpredictable!
Last night I ran "Sinister Secret of Whiterock" for my DCC troup. Four chars. Three of them first level, and a second level elf. This is one ive found is good for a one shot mod. Weird monsters, nasty traps, sketchy magic items, cool map etc... I described the mutant gnomes more like Derro...

Re: Savage Kings? Anyone played it yet?
SPOILERS Finished Doom of the savage kings tonight. 3 chars at 1st level. I think they gained around 22 xps throughout the adventure. Im digging the simple xp system. They ran through it alright. For the 2nd session we had an elf a druid and a warrior. They started at the entrznce to the dungeon. Af...

Re: House Rule Feedback Wanted
Nice. Here is the relevant section from my own Houserule Doc. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jX-DfeTq6ItVZN-yj04EE4YfqdpuOOGLhrnzvU-XYVg/edit?hl=en_US A Player may choose to Train in a Skill or Weapon not associated with their Class. Re: Thief Skills
This immediately made me think of the "hazard" bit in the D&D5 doc. Basically, if you fail by 10 or more your REALLY blow it. It might be nice to think of it that way. If the roll is close, then you can roll again or burn luck, if its not even close, then you messed it up. In the event...

Re: House Rule Feedback Wanted
I dunno. It makes sense from a narrative perspective, but I don't see a player really wanting to do that unless they had a choice. To me, it sort of speaks to DCC's assumption that leveling happens between adventures. In the Barrowmaze we've been leveling ad-hoc, which is totally nice for a PbM game...

Re: D&D Next publishing adventures for DCC RPG
Yesterday we played Dungeon Crawl Classics and today we playtested the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. It feels like a comparison is in order, especially since there seemed to be a lot of similarities. They have more in common with each other than with Type IV, that's for sure. DCC yesterday ...

Re: Classic Modules
Just a note on using spellcasters and such from other mods, personally, I wouldn't convert that at all, but use them straight. DCC doesn't have NPCs casting from the full spell tables and I think that's a good call. Looking up tables for monster attacks gets old quick unless its a crit. So I'd just ...

The bottom part is reposted from the Savage Kings thread, but I thought I'd put it here for consistency, only with my modified impressions and houserules first... Lessons Learned: Everyone was stoked. Magic is really all or nothing! Assumptions were upended, and a good time was had by all. Warhorses...

I'd say the Luck mod definitely changes. The only thing that stays the same is the Birth Augur.
It's fiddly, but so are all the Ability changes.

Totally. DCC has a different vibe. Especially in terms of how you make a character. However, I think they have alot more in common with each other than with Type IV. One of the happiest things I noticed is that the new monster stats are perfectly compatible with DCC. Also, I agree that the tone is f...

Re: Savage Kings? Anyone played it yet?
[SPOILERS] Well I started running DOOM of the Savage Kings tonight. Short session but we got into it. A first level thief, two 1st level wizards and three 0-level dudes. First thing they did was hide from the mob, then brazenly confront it. One of my players is pretty accustomed to type IV gaming. H...

Re: Definition
Its really similar to DCC. The advantage/disadvantage thing is similar to the Dice Chain, healing according to hit dice... undefined skill list. I think it looks a lot better too, but today I had a choice of what to play, and I chose DCC... and really wished I had an index...
