Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
Are we also going to see rituals? As in spells that are more powerful but take longer, need more components and/or more casters? Although maybe these are the sort of things that only NPC cultist types use, so just DM discretion? That would be a great 3PP supp. Aside from that, looks awesome! And I ...

Thank the gods you're not including feats or something similar to minimize / nullify low rolls or "1s". (I can already see that's gonna be added as a houserule by most GMs as players bitch and moan with the "lack of predictability" in the game )

Is there going to be a Paizo/Pathfinder style print+pdf subscription we can sign up to? Subscription service: maybe. But print + PDF: only if I can also find a way to offer it through bricks-and-mortar retailers. As you guys may know, I like game stores and do not like to offer services that compet...

Re: Just houserule it
I do not want another 400 page rule book. But I feel that the following should be included at a minimum: 1. Full combat rules (biggest point of contention between players and DM's) 2. Full racial and class stats 3. Full explanation of spell casting and spell descriptions (full ones not... same as s...

Re: Warrior mechanics
Yes, but I'm just covering general guidelines -- it's up to the DM to get specific. I'm really striving to avoid complexity and referencing the rules. There are guidelines, and in play I just call it situation by situation. Such a guideline book's gonna be the first needed expansion to the DCC RPG ...

Re: Damage Reduction in DCC RPG
What is everyone's take on damage reduction and its place in DCC RPG? Have no problem with it in the prior 3.x SRD / Pathfinder ruleset and don't see any major issue with it included unaltered into the DCC RPG. I'm looking into retrogames, C&C, True20, and the DCC rpgs for less complicated rule...

Re: Grappling in DCC?
If I leave it open and undefined in the rules, can you all just improvise and not blame me for the bad grapple rules? :) Uh, no offense but I can immediately see that'll be one of the first things DCC RPG buyers will be clamoring for clarification, especially if they're coming from 3.x/Pathfinder/4...

Re: Blackdirge’s Dungeon Denizens as Monster Manual for DCC
To avoid rulebook bloat in general, I'm leaning toward only doing one additional rulebook a year after the core book. The additional one would be called the "DCC Annual" (for 2012, 2013, etc.) and would include any new rules, errata, clarifications, and generally cool ideas that came up i...

Re: Blackdirge’s Dungeon Denizens as Monster Manual for DCC
So, that's a roundabout way of saying that I'm not sure how many monster books I'll publish. What do you guys think? Do people want a lot of monster books? Or, knowing that it's very simple to create new monsters, would you rather just create your own? No, but I would like some sorta single compend...

Re: Elric's plate armor and Gandalf's sword
The spell-casters in the Appendix N books tend to not be shy of using serious weapons (such as swords). And Elric at least didn't hesitate to wear plate armor. In fact, I can't think of a single magic-user in pre-D&D literature that basically said, "No, I can't use that weapon or wear that...

Re: DCCRPG Playtest at GenghisCon 2011
Melee for warrior types is kind of neat. You get one of those wacky dice to roll w/ your d20 when you roll to hit. The number of sides goes up every "X" amount of levels. It reminded me of the wild dice in Savage Worlds a bit. Except w/ this system you actually added the two together. Jos...

Re: The DCC RPG and Spellslinging
Smathis brought up an interesting point that I had nearly forgotten: Rituals. I love the idea of rituals. They bring a certain flavor to the game that sometimes seems to be missing from newer versions. Remember in AD&D, the first time you looked up some of those spells? And the descriptions of ...

I've already gotten a lot of mixed feedback on "races as classes," and I know it irks some people. The good news is that the target audience for this product is me , so I'm comfortable declaring the core audience will still be satisfied. :) How selfish of you! Don't know you the DCC RPG h...

And to add to that... A logical and easy-to-use framework of rules that would lend itself to this type of action. (e.g. in 3E one of the biggest concerns was trying to create your own "Whatever"...there were far too many rule constraints that just ended up making the entire process daunti...

Once the game comes out, I would invite you guys to publish this material as DCC RPG expansions. More info on the free license will be coming out in the coming months. As for the specific suggestions, I have my own ideas already, of course, but I do like some of these, too. I can't promise to inclu...

Re: An Interesting Approach to AC
Sounds something like the Defense Bonus from UE. Sort of. But it doesn't increase by level. So no ever-increasing Armor Class. An adaptation of such a system to DCC RPG's "randomization" policy would require a die roll to add to the base 10 AC with the die dependent on the class. Fighters...

Re: An Interesting Approach to AC
Hi all: Just found this on another forum and I gotta say I thought it was a very interesting take on Armor Class in a Low-Armor (or more S&S) setting. Here's the house rule for those not wanting to make the trip. From Morandir What I do is have the base AC vary by class. Fighters are 5(14), Cle...

Re: Challenging the stereotype
One philosophical difference Goodman seems to be going with is the lack of balance that seems to dominate today's rpgs (or at least rpg forums). If your 1st level PCs meet an ancient red dragon in the dungeon, its combats stats are not going to be adjusted to give the party a "fair" chance...
