Re: Spellburn Ability Loss
All of the above, just as you stated them. Hit points, attack bonus, everything gets reduced as the stat drops. On some of my homebrew character sheets and GM screens I often put the attribute table there just to remind my players that current bonus is based on current stat. Sometimes it's a bother...

Re: Mighty deed of arms and other classes
The important thing is, no matter what you decide, it should not be as good as (or better than) that Warrior's/Dwarf's Deed Die.

Another option: Let them have the result of a 1d3 Deed Die, but the Deed Die *reduces* attack roll and damage.

Re: B5 dcc quick start rules?
I tried a crude re-format of the Quick Start PDF you can download through Goodman Games, and when I tried to print to a pamphlet PDF the size exploded on me. Apparently I need to figure out a better way to make PDFs than "Print to PDF" on my computer. :P You need to make sure that you hav...

Love it! I'm not going to use this exact monster, but you've inspired me. I've never thought to give monster a deed die before, for instance. My PbP players just rolled for initiative this morning against a monster that was mentioned in the very first part of the campaign eighteen months ago or so,...

Happy Father's Day!
In the epic poem Beowulf, the monster Grendel and his unnamed mother are prominent. Details about these monsters are scanty. Although Grendel appears in The Nexus of Yule, the second adventure in Perils of the Cinder Claws, this is just one interpretation of the monster. Being Father's Day, I though...

Tunnel Adventures: Question 1: * Tunnels are part of an old hydro-electric complex. Think Hoover Dam. * If you own The Fence's Fortuitous Folly, you can repurpose the chase mechanics therein to model the PCs attempting to outdistance/hide from pursuers. By adding decision points where the decisions ...

Re: Wizard/Elf Wants a Lower Spell Result
Some spells specifically say that you can choose a lower result. Ekim's Mystical Mask is one example. In the "General" information it says "the wizard may choose to invoke an effect of lesser power than his spell check roll to produce a weaker but potentially more useful result"...

I wasn't in on the beta-testing, but what is the reasoning behind Wizards having a list of "Known Spells" without regard to level (vs. the Cleric's "Spells Known by Level" or the early D&D systems where a Magic-User would gain a set number of spells of a given level)? Couldn...

Re: Word of Command, Lotus Stare = Suicide
Last night, "Justify" was used. I'm curious to know the context of using "Justify" and what that ended up doing. Me too! Did it work? And what was it? [insert big-ears emoji here] It made an opponent explain its actions. It was actually a pretty brilliant idea on the part of the...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC
Still a pretty cool idea. I do like adding gold/xp into DCC, i just like.. "earning" levels, and only getting 1-4 XP per encounter makes it a slog. And getting "milestone" style level ups just feels wrong to me. So getting loot to earn more xp seems like a good addition. Here is...

Re: How does a garrote work in consecutive rounds?
The way I read it, the garotte does 3d4 damage if the attack is a surprise, plus a critical hit roll if the attacker is a thief. Consecutive rounds are not surprise, so I would rule the base 1 damage per round, assuming that the target is struggling to escape. However, remember that a thief can modi...
