Re: Review: Doom of the Savage Kings
I like the high check. It matches very much what is happening in the game.

Re: The Wait is Getting to Me
In order to save a lot of shipping cost (to Canada), I ordered from a gameshop in England. They tell me they will have the book by June 18th ("second wave" of distribution??), should I start to worry??? :? It was worth the wait. This is a beautiful book. Doom of Savage Kings is a great mo...

Re: Working on Gods & Powers of Shanthopal
Absolutely brilliant Crow! Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and Rat God? Your host of Gods just drips of appendix N! Well, the Hidden Cults are just that....Some Neutral and mostly Chaotic cults that no one wants to meet on a moonless night. I also really like the word Shanthopal. Does it have some sort of me...

More Gods and Powers of Shanthopal Ansha: The Goddess of Darkness and the Night, Patron of thieves and harlots. Ansha appears as a beautiful and well-proportioned dark-skinned woman, clad in black and green. Her temples are gardens tended by sacred prostitutes, where venomous serpents are handled b...

Re: The Wait is Getting to Me
Well, I finally managed to get my hands on my pre-order copy yesterday. Perfect condition; fantastic book.
Of course, what I really was looking forward to at this point was Doom of the Savage Kings, which, I must say, does not disappoint! Very cool module, and I am eager to run it now!

The Celestial Temple of Kathur-Leung: This place is the Seat of the Celestial Agency in Golden Shanthopal, where the Nine Thousand Gods of the East may be worshipped. Many of these gods are ancestral deities, the honoured progenitors of various families. Others are gods of places far distant, who a...

Working on Gods & Powers of Shanthopal
I like to start with the flavour text of gods before getting into the rules text. I think that formulating concepts, and then ensuring that the rules match those concepts, is integral towards a good play experience. That might be why DCC is such a good fit for me! Below are the concept statements fo...

Re: Ability modifiers
Thanks for this everyone. I appreciate this has already been thrashed through before, and I think my key issue is resolved: I want to be playing the game how it is meant to be played, and I am prepared to be swayed by what is clearly a majority interpretation. We will change the luck mod for critic...

Nice. Here is the relevant section from my own Houserule Doc. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jX-DfeTq6ItVZN-yj04EE4YfqdpuOOGLhrnzvU-XYVg/edit?hl=en_US A Player may choose to Train in a Skill or Weapon not associated with their Class. The player rolls an INT/PER/LUCK Check (DC10) to find a Mast...

I would treat as a "1".
Likewise, I treat a Mercurial Magic roll over 100 as "100".

Re: Thief Skills
This immediately made me think of the "hazard" bit in the D&D5 doc. Basically, if you fail by 10 or more your REALLY blow it. It might be nice to think of it that way. If the roll is close, then you can roll again or burn luck, if its not even close, then you messed it up. In the even...

Re: Bonus to replace Spellburn option?
Ah... we've run into this a little in convention play. Wizards go nova because they know they won't need their stats again. I suppose, although I'm not sure how the Wizard knows that for certain, unless it is because the time limit of the event is drawing near.....? Otherwise, it will go hard on th...

Why does the adventure being a one-shot make Spellburn unbalanced?

Re: Thief Skills
One of the important considerations, for me, is avoiding an on/off switch. In 3e, when the DM sets the DC for the lock, it either falls within the Rogue's Take 20 or it does not. If it does, the lock is automatically pickable (the switch is set to ON) and, if not, not (the switch is set to OFF). In ...

Thief Skills
So, a thief goes to pick a lock. If the roll fails, can he try again? If so, is there any limitation to the number of times that he can try? If an average lock is DC 10 and a very good lock is DC 20, unlimited rerolls would imply that a 1st level thief, given time, could pick any very good lock he c...

Re: Books that should be in Appendix N
I had an exchange with Gary Gygax about books once, and I was surprised (given his obvious love of old language) that he wasn't a fan of older "classic" literature. It didn't occur to me to ask him about William Morris then, but I doubt Gary had read Morris' fantasies. If he had, I feel su...

Re: Please review my Monk class
I notice you fellows are both in favor of 'giving' the Monk the Warrior's MDoA. Meanwhile, I'm not. Just to bring my basic point to the fore: Deeds let the Warrior improvise endlessly. That's theirs . A Warrior, with monk flavouring (or, for that matter, a Thief with monk flavouring) are obviously a...
