Re: unlimited lay on hands

Any good (or lucky) cleric should be casting bless self and then holy symbol (if high enough) and going to town on the monsters. Leave the healing for later :D

Yeah, I'm thinking I might just have each level be weight limits rather than object limits.

New Spell: Conservation of Mass

Not fully fleshed out yet, but I have the basics down, probably still needs refined, honed, sharpened, fine tuned, etc. Channeled through arcane means, you are able to transfer mass from one or more objects into others. 1-12: Failure. Forgotten 13-15: You may transfer mass between one held object an...

Re: Missed opportunity? Ability Score based +/-D modifiers?

I don't think it adds much emphasis on the Ability Scores. The +/-D would just change the emphasis of ability scores Example of melee attack roll now vs a D modifier system: With Bonus With +/-D Str 3 1d20-3 1d16 Str 4 1d20-2 1d16 Str 5 1d20-2 1d18 Str 6 1d20-1 1d18 Str 7 1d20-1 1d18 Str 8 1d20-1 1d...

Missed opportunity? Ability Score based +/-D modifiers?

So one thing I've been thinking about recently is that one aspect of DCC RPG that makes itself separate from other games is the dice chain. Some modifiers in the game still give a straight up +/- to the roll, while others actually modify the die that you roll for determining success/failure. While I...

Re: race-as-class vs class-as-race

As a game, DCC RPG has been out now for around 7 years. So of course it has picked over with a fine toothed comb by everyone who has read the book and had some time to think about it. So of course I have formed by own opinions about how it could be expanded/improved without breaking into habits of o...

Why?
Because you can as a human? "oh my int and personality are really low, so maybe I'll be a thief or warrior instead of wizard or cleric"

Re: race-as-class vs class-as-race

Well one of the problems with D&D is stat bonuses from race. I don't think having multiple dwarf, elf, whatever classes available would lead down that road if you kept it like the human classes where you can just kinda.. fit your character into a role that might be better for their stats.

as far as I can tell, the book doesn't say. But really, if you're running a game you can just make up whatever seems good.

Re: Question about recovering missile weapon ammunition

Any way you want to do it, that's how DCC rolls! Personally, I see ranged weapons as having a lot of advantages in movement and target placement, especially in open ground, so I'd probably just make all the arrows break whether they hit or miss. But if people wanted to recover arrows I'd probably ro...

Re: Any point in spell level?

Those are good points, although you could just make different categories of spells, where they do get step-down in the die used to cast them, and still not have them be cut-off by character level because they are too low to learn it, it just means it is all the more difficult for a lower level chara...

Re: Any point in spell level?

Yeah, but mercurial magic is kind of a side feature of magic in DCC, could probably modify it to not require anything to do with spell level.

Any point in spell level?

So I was thinking about how spells work in DCC, with certain thresholds to cast successfully and different tiers of success available for each spell, is spell level even necessary any more? The only function I see spell level having is a level-based gateway to keep players from using spells before c...

race-as-class vs class-as-race

So we've got race-as-class for Elf, Halfling, and Dwarf. And class-as-race for Humans (human warrior, human wizard, human cleric, human thief) . Without exploding out the choices by making something similar to DCC with the "any race, any class" that we get from other games, would expanding humanoid ...

Old school essentials vs Basic/Expert Remastered

So, I haven't kickstarted either of these, but was interested in picking up some hardcopies if they do become available. I didn't get into D&D until like.. a couple months before 3rd edition came out, so when I was doing my first adventure as a player, a whole new thing came out, so I didn't really ...

There really isn't much difference in the actual book, right? Just the included adventures and maybe artwork? You could purchase the digital version of the book somewhere if you only wanted the book and didn't mind if it was physical vs digital. If you wanted digital then I'm not sure what you could...

Re: Chicken Patron

You could make up rules for Camila, Gonzo's chicken from the Muppets. You could turn any of the characters from "Chicken Run" into the post-world dark gritty patron version of themselves. You could make up the name for one of the red roosters that is supposed to crow at the coming of Ragnarök. of co...
