Great idea! I am playing as is for now, but if I see this become a problem I think this will be the house rule that fixes it.

Re: So GG is not putting out more DCC rulebooks?

Personally, I think leaving the rules alone is the best idea. Part of the reason I lost interest with D&D (and several other games) was because they became over explained. Part of what I like is the mystery of a bizarre fantasy world. Once every nook, cranny and monster has been cataloged, alph...

Re: So GG is not putting out more DCC rulebooks?

A lot of us are pretty happy with the current set of rules and the gaps it easily allows us to play in. A lot of the things you mention in your post are ripe for judges to fill in the gaps with what fits in their world. We can use monster manuals and other bestiaries for inspiration if need be and c...

Re: Crits and fumbles are too frequent.

In all the games I have run or played so far neither one has seemed too frequent. I would, as the others have encouraged, recommend trying the rules as written a bit and see how it plays out.

I still need to pick up the Crawl issues. I keep hearing good things about them, but haven't ordered them up yet. Big fan of sword and board as depicted in DCC RPG, shield spikes can only make it better!

Re: Selling loot...

Yeah - I tend towards the abstract route as well. Yes, in a small village with little wealth, getting full value for items is going to be tricky. But they can probably unload a small portion or trade for something. I think I can cover this in game pretty quickly and not needing to get too detailed. ...

I do seem to remember a Kickstarter update that mentioned moving boxes. At least I think that was one of his updates.

Wow! Two hits is impressive! Especially to have had two characters from the same player survive that. I have had one character survive one-hit. Many more die from the very first blow!

GaryCon is getting more and more tempting based on this thread! My GenCon plans for this year are falling apart, so GaryCon could get me to a fun con a little faster than waiting until next year!

Re: The Iron Tavern: DCC RPG Blogging

Just got through reading it as well. Could not agree with you more on the classes of DCC. I think Mighty Deeds are what initially drew me to the game. Agreed. I really liked the Mighty Deeds in reading them and have been pleased to see them work well in play as well. Nice simple mechanic that doesn...

Yeah - most of the 0-levels I have had seem to die in one hit. Occasionally one will survive a hit that was minimum damage, they tend to not last much longer though.

I am curious when a module says something lthat the players find is say a +1 mace or sword how do others handle this do you make a roll to see if it has the potential to be constructed of mythril? Do you provide opportunities for your elves to mine mythril and possibly have the jangle coated of ref...

Re: Mighty Deeds - how do you judge them?

It is arbitrary, that is true... but I just feel it out and go with what feels right. In the case we are discussing, I feel that Hit Dice of a creature already figure into their resistance against all Deeds including blinding attacks by carrying along a typically higher AC, making them less likely ...

Re: Mighty Deeds - how do you judge them?

I judge them pretty much like TheNobleDrake. So, I do use an informal graduated success scale. If you exceed the necessary roll then the effectiveness increases. We had some pretty fun stuff happen in some of the games I ran. I try to encourage the descriptive Mighty Deed, so I attempt to say yes an...

There was another encounter they just flat out tried to avoid in their earnest as well! You don't get to see that ...

Re: Dwarves in Plate. Impractical?

Note: I have drastically changed races (separating them from class, streamlining mechanics, and stripping them down to one or two 'essential' details of how they differ from human) in my home-games to accommodate not having random chance dictate that your character's name may as well be Bearfood si...
