Re: Judged my first DCC RPG game today

Just ran "Sailors..." also last night for my group (4 players/12 characters, the most memorable being a female Wainwright with stamina of 18) Here are some anecdotes from my game, somewhat related to the game brilliantly described above: - The party decided the best way to get rid of the v...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!

Hello, I've been here a while, but not in this thread! My name is Yves, I'm French-Canadian (hence the weird English use from time to time..) and I've been role-playing on and off for 30 years. Mostly DMing, mostly Call of Cthulhu and AD&D. Memorable campaign: "Horror on the Orient Express&...

Re: Appendix N type movies.

For about 12 bucks, you can get 50 European/Italian sword and sandal movies. Ok, this is not "Star Wars" or "Gladiator", but many are fantastic, story-wise if not SFX-wise. My favorites: -Atlas in the Land of the Cyclops -Fury of Achilles -Goliath and the Dragon -Hercules against...

Re: Wizards taking over

I might add, as self-defence, that I mostly DMed Call of Cthulhu games all those years of fudging dice rolls. Those SAN roll can be make a player go insane for real when it's the 5th (lovingly developed) character lost in the campaign... a common occurrence in "Masks of Nyarlathotep" and s...

Re: Can an invisible person/creature be attacked?

Can't be worse than when I started back in the 80s, playing with only the D&D expert rules and practically unable to read English!
I played for years with twended ("two-handed") swords before understanding you needed your two hands to hold it...

Re: Wizards taking over

I'm with Galadrin on that. As a matter of fact I've decided to go by the rules one step further, for me, and make all dice rolls in the open. Something I've never done in 25+ years of DMing. No more "fudging" the result to avoid bad breaks for the players (or to save my critters for that m...

Re: Brave Halfling -- Adventure Toolkit product line

Just out of curiosity, how do you intend to proceed with the additional "backers" material (NPCs, monsters, locations, etc.) ?
I assume some kind of coordination will be needed, unless you prefer a "patchwork" feel (which may also be a good way to go).

Re: Mythos patrons

Cthulhu Mythos Patrons Spellbook? I would buy that in an instant! (Now if only someone would write it.) On the other hand,as a long-time Call of Cthulhu player I can't recall direct invocation of Great Old Ones or Outer Gods EVER being beneficial in any kind of way to any investigator... Usually in ...

Re: DCC and AD&D

As an Aristotelian, I must comeback to the "golden mean" on this issue: The adventure/campaign/world has to be as diverse and unpredictable as the "real" world. But on the cover of EVERY adventure module one still sees: "for X characters of level Y". There is a good rea...

Re: DCC and AD&D

I just have grown to dislike the balancing act that GMing 3.x/Pathfinder requires for creating encounters. Absolutely. RPGs that can't seem to tolerate characters dying (see recent D&D editions, especially the coming one!) are "lame". As for my "experience" it mainly comes f...

Re: DCC and AD&D

I agree mostly with your post, but still think there is a difference between the party crushing ONE troll in one round, having to work together to defeat FOUR trolls, and being annihilated in 2 rounds by TEN trolls. As a DM(Judge), I do want the party to struggle and succeed against the odds. Most o...

Re: DCC and AD&D

A good adventure is basically a great plot and an the right "mood" linking rooms/monsters and characters. The rule system comes in second. So by all mean, there are tons of AD&D stuff suitable for DCC RPG. That said, after trying first hand to "convert" AD&D monsters and/...

Upcoming rulebooks?

We obviously need more detailed Monsters, Spells and Magic items rulebooks.
(as for new classes/races, and the obligatory "official campaign" setting, I don't see an immediate need.)

I'm trying to find out what's in the pipeline, apart from the modules?

Anybody?

Looking for playtesters for a "high" level adventure..

I'm looking for a couple of DCC RPG groups willing to playtest a "higher level" adventure, that is eventually going to become a submission to the CRAWL! fanzine (or maybe submitted for publication elsewhere). The adventure, called "The Tainted Forest of Thorum", was originally wr...

Re: Posting homemade "amateur" DCC module?

Thanks reverenddak! we'll be in touch. I've started conversion from the original AD&D stats block to "standard" DCC all over the module. It's going well, about 1/3 done already. I've also replace many monsters in order to use those of the "Cyclopedia", whenever it fits. Furth...

Posting homemade "amateur" DCC module?

(Reposted from the Judge thread)

Would this be the right place to post a "homemade" DCC module ?

I've been working on one (originally for AD&D, level 8-10, that can be easily converted) for a long time and I'm in the mood, and have the time, to finish it this summer..

Re: Known spells at 0-level..?

That makes sense! Thanks. I was confused by this: Character creation in the DCC RPG follows these steps: 1. ... 2. ... 3. ... 4. ... 5. Attempt to survive your first dungeon. If you survive and reach 1 XP, you advance to 1st level. At this point, you choose a class. See page 19. 6. Based on the clas...
