Speaking of, anyone know what happened with the digital version? I've been trying to find it, but the site that appears to be hosting it is down.

FWIW, I'm off and home the whole week of Xmas, although we might head to San Antonio to watch the Longhorns get whopped in person. :)

Well, modern preference for the clean shaven chest notwithstanding, Conan came from cold climes. Likely he and his people were hairy all over. :)

Re: Do we need War rules?

I agree with the general sentiment above about not needing rules, but mixing the roleplaying with arbitrary battle results. A good way to approach battles as a DM is the way that directors approach battle scenes in movies - focused bits of action within the battle. Think about Helm's Deep, for examp...

Re: Making an Elric

I always viewed the Melniboneans as elves, in the D&D sense. They just weren't the classic Tolkinesque elves, but what would happen if the Tolkien elves decided that they wanted to ride dragons, take drugs, treat with demons and rule the world.

I can't wait for this. Of all the crowd funding projects I've backed, this may very well be the one that I most look forward to. (It's close with the Demons & Devils miniatures and Takes From the Fallen Empire.)

I've been happy with BHP so far. Why? He's been absolutely forthright about the situation and his delays, he's been very communicative and he's taken - and incorporated - feedback. "Of course he has", you say, "any good businessman would." You'd think that, but there are a number...

Re: Dropping hints for how to get an advantage in a battle

If hints don't work and you really want them to notice, have the fighters in the group make Int checks and if any succeed just _tell_ them. After you do this once or twice, then they might get the hints.

Re: How do you define min/max?

I had a similar Champions experience. In fact, I've had that experience with nearly every point buy system, even (especially?) games like 3x and Savage Worlds. And that perfectly sums up why I don't like games with point buy systems: inevitably they trend towards optimization, system mastery and abu...

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG crowd...

I didn't know the specific details of which at the time, but I do now. We started with the Holmes box set in 79 or 80, then quickly moved to AD&D, but also played Moldvay B/E. We didn't actually know the differences between them all. :) As other games came out - Traveller, Star Frontiers, Boot H...

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide

BoardGameGeek is down or I'd point you there for feedback on CCG Armory, but the short version is: Be very wary of ordering from them. Horror stories far outnumber good experiences and more than outweigh their generally good prices. I just ordered the limited edition gold foil book from them on the...

Re: 0 Level Action Die

In fact, IIRC somewhere in the book in mentions that 0 levels _should_ use a lower die, but during playtests it was hard enough at 0 level that a d20 was used for playability. Maybe I read that here, I dunno.

Re: Advantage/Disadvantage dice?

This isn't a particularly new concept. Lots of games use bonus/penalty dice. However, most of the games I'm familiar with that use this concept (PDQ, BoL, etc) use d6 or maybe d10 - doing it with a d20 seems so ... swingy. I don't care the math they claim, that's a HUGE variant. Also, in terms of fu...

Re: 2012: Transylvanian Adventures & The Transylvanian Grimo

There are a couple of ways to approach extras. One way is to look at additional content you wanted to add (a bonus class? additional setting material?), and use that as bonus content. Maybe additional adventures. A hardcover option, etc. But that requires extra writing. Another option is simpler, ba...

Since most of the content is done, and its set for editing and layout - have you thought about Kickstarting this to get the funding to go the last steps? That would also definitely allow you to understand the market appeal for the project. (And apologies if you already addressed that upthread, I don...

There are two local stores in Austin/Round Rock that I frequent (most often the Round Rock one -- Rogue's Gallery). The Austin one (Dragon's Lair) has all of the modules and the core book stocked. The Round Rock store couldn't keep the stuff on the shelf to start with, but general demand seems to h...

I love that there won't be rule book bloat. I do however have one request, a book of monsters from the previous 3.5 and 4e editions of the adventures. I have the Swords & Wizardry version of Tome of Horrors for this. 650+ pages of monsters is a glorious thing. :) I don't need more rules (or mon...
