Re: Converting D&D mods
DCC levels obviously don't scale well with "old" D&D. But it looks like direct conversion is pretty straight forward monster to monster, etc. Could a group of 5th level DCC characters handle a 5th level D&D adventure? Or is a 5th level DCC character comparable to a 10th level D&am...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
1. I support the spell charts. I think it might make or break the success of the game, but I think it is also what sets it apart from other OGL/D&D games. (and I think the concept should be expanded on to thief abilities, turning undead and 2. Separate, fancy, spellbooks as PDF is absolutely th...

Re: The beta rules will be available...
Will these rules be updated with more spells, monsters over time, or that's all until november? What I really like: -Art and design. It blows your mind. -Character creation with all the random items and interesting bits (like Luck, items, professions). -Level titles. Now we know what a knight means ...

Re: Spells, and what to do with them.... [long]
I can see where this could be a problem, especially for dm's who might have waste time consulting spell tables for who knows how many npc's or monsters in one night. I won't really have an opinion until I see the rules and playtest some though. One thing that might be an option- couldn't you make a...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
2. If you are still worried about your BBEG, simply don't put him in a room where stunts will be just asking to be pulled off. So if you decide it's cool to have your Lich Lord's throne on the edge of a precipice that overhangs a volcano, complete with braziers suspended by chains all over the room...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's
A lich king is more clever than go toe-to-toe with a fighter. I suppose he also has an arsenal of spells that leaves a smoking pile of ash of the poor warrior if he tries to get close. Unless the warrior finds a way to avoid or negathe it - in such case, he deserves to be able to chokehold and pumme...

Re: Why Levels?
I feel the opposite, and I'm sure most of the people in my old group would agree. I always got frustrated playing games where I had to sit through quite a few sessions before my character changed at all. I'd much rather have small incremental improvements every session. Not only does it feel more r...

Re: Why I love the DCC RPG
I guess I should add "DCC Fanboi" to my signature. :D As a total off-topic aside, can anyone explain why "fanboi" is spelled like that? I assume historically that it comes from "fan boy" which has a Y and not an I at the end. (Another proof that I'm not in the cool cro...

Usually you won't start a new campaign every few months - unless you write TPK centric adventures and start every new character from level 0.finarvyn wrote:Of course, running though piles of level-0 dudes each time you start a new campaign may get old fast, it's too early to tell.

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
You can think of level 0 character as a squire before knighting. Squire would be even good for a profession. But if you still can't wrap your head around the concept, then leave level 0 playing out of your campaign. Or play a different game. Why bother with DCC RPG if you keep finding things that yo...

That said, you won't need the Free RPG Day release to use the beta. That's just icing on the cake. If you can't make it to the store, there's nothing to stop you from downloading the beta, opening your oldest copy of Keep on the Borderlands, and getting your DCC playtest started right away. True, a...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
Really? That's not what Appendix N is all about. In fact, most of Appendix N is about people who sought out adventure. What books in N are about people who get caught up in something bigger than them all? Bilbo? The four hobbits of the Fellowship of the Ring? Lovecraft is also there in Appendix N, ...

Re: Levelling from 0 to 1
My understanding is that level 0 is the origin story, so to speak. I think Joseph calls it the "Character Funnel" or something like that. Those PCs that survive the 0-level adventure become level 1 and get a class at that time. The character will still have a back story. That is where the...

Re: Designer's Blog #3: What Do You Mean, "Vancian"?
I'm curious why spellburn can only be applied to physical attributes. Surely it's appropriate for a spellcaster to addle his wits, or damage his sanity, personality, or luck to improve their spellcasting. It's usually a bad idea, especially for the intelligence attribute, but in a desperate spot I'...

Re: How could we forget this...???
I would caution against moving the depiction of elves, dwarves, and halflings away from their LoTR counterparts. 99.9% of the fantasy audience expects them to be just like Professor Tolkien wrote. Why? The mainstream (ie.: D&D, WoW, Warhammer) is already quite far from the tolkienian counterpar...

Re: How could we forget this...???
So far we saw the character sheet for an elf. It was written months ago, that the chart on you roll for 0-level occupation has demihuman ones too. It was also hinted, that it might be possible for demihumans to take other classes, but then they won't get their racial abilities. So, what's the final ...

Reading the concerns about the detail level of this amazing map: What about making the player's map the ultra-cool, fully illustrated one? Then have the GM map be more simplified, yet full of critical details. That way both the players and the GM can "oooo and Ahhh" over the quality artwo...
