Re: Domains & Strongholds
Yeah, there were many rulers and nobles who had domains, despite not being a demigod.

Re: "Advanced" Dungeon Crawl Classics
Splitting off Race from Class would be a major overhaul, IMO, and probably more trouble than it is worth. It wasn't, although I only used the four core classes with many races, with the possibility to get into elite orders via questing (like paladins). It's way easier than writing nine new full-blo...

Re: My problem with Mighty Deeds
In play it tends to be rather....random. sure there are 1's but also all the rest of the numbers. The higher the die the more varied the number. Now one house rule I heard about was to keep the deed die a D4(not sure why it started with a D4) and just give a flat bonus to hit when the number would ...

Re: My problem with Mighty Deeds
1) It's your game, so go crazy! 2)The swingy nature of DCCRPG kind of likes the warrior having a strange attack bonus from round to round. If that's too swingy for you, change as needed. The Dark Master will not take your books away. I'm not afraid to house rule, I'm more interested in opinions or ...

My problem with Mighty Deeds
Something that bothers me about mighty deeds is that the deed die determines the attack bonus for the round. Up until level 7 the deed die is a simple die roll, with a minimum value of one. This might result in situations where the thief or cleric has constantly better attack bonuses, than the warri...

Re: I'm a New Guy
Another question - DCC uses the D20 system for the most part, yeah? Does that mean I could plug in any D20 monsters without any tweaking? Like a 3rd or 3.5 edition D&D monster manual? I understand I'd have to drop their skills and feats, etc, but that's easy enough. I assume the stats would wor...

Re: I'm a New Guy
Hey folks! First thing's first - This game looks awesome. It is awesome. I finished a DCC RPG campaign last winter, I'm running a 5e campaign for two groups, but in the meantime I'm still planning my next DCC RPG campaign. This is something no other game managed to achieve, except Warhammer Fantasy...

Re: The Secret Origins of DCC RPG
There was talk of rules for armies, ruling countries, and other high level stuff for levels 6-10. Maybe that will still happen some day. We still only have a very small number of level 5+ adventures for DCC RPG, and I'm pretty sure we don't have too many parties that reached high levels. It's still...

Re: A few questions
You're welcome. DCC RPG might seem intimidating here and there, because it lets a lot of questions open and up for the Judge to answer. Don't sweat it, come up with something that works for you.

Re: A few questions
Question the first: The Wizard vs the Elf. Am I missing something or is being an Elf like being a Wizard but way more awesome? There is the iron thing, but other than that the Elf seems way better. Elves also get one less spell, their luck bonuses are very different, plus it's much harder to roll a...

Re: The Secret Origins of DCC RPG
I remember being involved in a discussion about what dwarves' special abilities should be. My opinion was that since warriors were killer offensive fighters, dwarves should be superb defensive fighters to make them different from warriors. I think I was the one who suggested dwarves should get bonu...

The Secret Origins of DCC RPG
Plenty of us has seen the playtest version of DCC RPG, but we don't know much about what were the plans before those times. I seem to recall that the plan was originally not a new rpg, but to have a universal system (like JGU) so DCC adventures could be converted to any D&D-based game. It was on...

Transdimensional Bag
I started to convert some traditional D&D magic items for DCC RPG. And by conversion, I mean changing them drastically. This is my version of the classic Bag of Holding. Transdimensional Bag: While it looks like a plain sack, this bag’s mouth opens to a badly lit pocket dimension, where faceless...

Re: Light spell?
Light shouldn't be mundane, and neither almighty lightsource spell. There is a place for it to burn undead, dispel supernatural darkness, blind stygian creatures. A wizard learned a light spell in my Terminus campaign, although he rarely used it because of the possibility of failure. Still, it was v...

I think they are pretty mediocre. I'm far more satisfied with the current DCC modules, and they are pretty easy to convert to 5e thankfully.

Re: S&W Monstrosities and ToH conversion.
There are no exact conversion guides, but you can take their Hit Dice and rework stuff from there. Just use common sense and don't be afraid about balance - there's no such thing in DCC RPG, the experience system handles risk vs reward. You might also find useful the Monster Helper.

Re: Multiclassing in Lankhmar
It was mentioned that characters can dip into other classes' abilities in DCCL. I wonder how that will work, do they have to exchange something, or level slower?

Re: Frozen In Time using Pathfinder
To me, it seems underpowered even for level 1 PF characters.... FIT is more like a funhouse dungeon, not an encounter fest. Some encounters are easy, some aren't harmful at all, and every one of them can be avoided easily. For example my players cast eternal sleep on the saber-tooth bear, charmed t...

Re: B/X style skill/ability checks and saving throws in DCC.
The saving throws are somewhat balanced by burning luck. I had the option for my players in my Terminus campaign to join elite classes and earn promotions or extra training, thus the warrior becoming paladin, the thief becoming an acrobat, and so on. Several of these included bonuses like rolling wi...

Re: "Fixing" DCC RPG
I allow my players to roll 4d6 take the best 3. I don't like players to have low ability scores. I think adventurers should be above average. The funnel will weed out the weak, and sometimes it's fun that the statistically weak characters outlive and outperform seemingly superior characters. I'll k...

Re: Weird idea
The shrine is a series of tunnels... Once you enter the labrynth, the airborn spores enter your body and over the course of a few hours, the players suffer effects similar to corruption. Maybe every character rolls on an effect table at the end of every encounter (6 or 7 potential encounters advent...

Or to keep the spirit of DCC, how about using d30 for untrained, and d20 for trained checks?EyvindHaraldsen wrote:I would either do away with the trained/untrained distinction, or have untrained function at ability score-5.
