Re: Roleplaying level 1

How have other Judges handled the step up to level one from a roleplaying point of view - did you have a training cutscene, maybe some kind of stop off in a village or city to allow them time to grow into their new characters... I think you have pretty much answered your own question. Usually I jus...

Re: Appendix N: For a New Generation - What is your list?

Interesting. When I saw the thread title I assumed newer books and newer authors, yet many of the posts list older books which happened to not to be on Gygax's list. I would have anticipated a list for recent years, say 2000 or later. That would be an interesting list. :D

Re: Kickstarter Launched: Kull of Atlantis Reprint

I'm curious about what would be in these books that might not have been in the Ballatine trade paperback. (That whole REH series seemed pretty complete, so I assumed that Kull would be as well.)

Re: Did I miss it?

Latest update is that PDF should be out around August and paper copy sometime after. There are several adventures and rulebooks that should happen, as quite a few kickstart goals were reached.

Looking forward to this quite a bit! 8)

Nice map! Blackmarsh is a great setting, and if I remember correctly Rob's map is B&W instead of color. This is a great addition. :D

Re: Harley Stroh DCC Adventures + Blackmoor

When I think of Blackmoor it's always Arneson's "First Fantasy Campaign" instead of the Mystara version. I like to keep things close to the original source material, if possible.

I'd love to see a DCC version of the Blackmoor campaign. That would be awesome!

Re: Solo play?

Most paper-pencil RPGs are designed to have one GM and one or more players, so "no, they aren't designed for solo play" is probably a safe answer. If you want a solo RPG module you might look into something written for Tunnels & Trolls because quite a few of those modules are written w...

Re: DCC Quick Start Rules 2017 question on table 4-1

DCC runs things on a sliding dice scale. d3 -> d4 -> d5 -> d6 -> d7 -> d8 -> d10 -> d12 -> d14 -> d16 -> d20 The +/- dice type means you move along that scale. For example, suppose a weapon typically does a d8 damage. In that case a +1d would shift up from d8 to d10 while a -1d would shift down from...

Re: Dice

When Joseph Goodman (company owner and head honcho of the DCC RPG) started his quest to write a new RPG, he had a couple of key elements that he wanted to see. He wanted a game which was simple to play, he wanted a game which reflected the feel of the old Appendix N stories, and he wanted something ...

Re: Gazateer?

I think the default idea is you have your world, whether published world or home-brew, and you plug in the published adventures where you see fit. More flexibility that way. I agree, and that's how I have been using them, but it would be kind of cool to have a big-picture plot arc occasionally. Eit...

Re: Gazateer?

No, but I've often wished for one. The problem is that many of the Appendix N inspiration sources (what focused the design of DCC RPG) were short stories, most of which (Conan, Elric, Fafhrd & Mouser, etc.) were written to be read in any order. Often folks other than the original authors put tog...

I really like the original cover, but I think that slorg had a nice idea with the one below.

Re: The next GG kickstarter?

Everything that I've heard points to kickstarter. I know that the base rules have been in good shape for a while and I suspect that the extras are underway. Goodman Games seems to like to have a lot of the work done prior to the announcement of a kickstart, which is probably why they are so good at ...

The editable PDF sounds like it comes from the d20 product line (D&D 3E) and not from DCC RPG. The stats given in the DCC quickstart are the correct DCC RPG stats.

Re: rare Demi-humans

Typically, when I build a campaign setting I populate most of the space with humans but scatter little isolated demi-human settlements. An elven forest here, dwarven mountain there, that kind of thing. That doesn't mean that elves and dwarves can't live intermingled with humans, but instead gives th...

Re: "Fifth Edition Fantasy" feedback

5E isn't complicated at all, particularly if you don't use the optional feat rules and use some of the DMG rule variants, such as the no skills option. Honestly I thought the same thing until I had played 5E for a while. The feats are actually pretty minor and the skill list really hit the "sw...

Re: Goodman games should run their own con and do CCC AL mod

I'd vote for anything that allows for Goodman 5E modules to be AL-legal.

I ran a couple of the 5E Goodman products at my local game store, but then someone must have complained that the XP wouldn't count for their AL character because the store asked me to stop. :(

Michael Curtis is the lead author and he can probably give more specifics, but I've seen a beta of this and the bulk of the rules, etc, seem to be complete and ready to go so I would speculate that it would be one of those fast kickstarts rather than a slow one.
